Ally, here's the thread. I'm already 185 pages through. I got it today, and really wanted to start. It's totally OK if you're behind.

Oh no, that's okay! That's actually REALLY funny. I got it at the library today, and then saw that you started it. So I went ahead and started it and...well...I'm on page 282. I had a free afternoon(yay!) so I've pretty much holed myself up in my room and just ignored the rest of the world to read this book. I may finish it tonight. Who am I kidding? I am finishing it tonight. The suspense is killing me. This one is so much better than the Elite.
I'm on 213! I might finish this with you! It is SO MUCH BETTER than The Elite. But America keeps getting in these stupid fights with Maxon! He's being so nice!
I finished at 1:20 a.m. last night. It wasn't even worth it, if I really want to be honest. I'm pretty sick of the way this series is dragging on.SPOILERS TO COME.
The Selection was only mildly annoying. The cuteness and overall enjoyability outweighed the bad parts, anyways. I FELT for America. She seemed like a main character who I could empathize with.
Then The Elite came along. I cannot tell you how awfully I think of that atrocious sequel. It was so BOOOORING. The plot didn't move along at all!
Now I've finished The One. And I'm sad to say that this series has wrapped up (as far as the Selection contest) exactly how I thought it would. No twists, no deeper plot. America threw away worthless Aspen and is going to marry the rich, handsome Prince Maxon. Whoopee.
Problem #1:
Aspen and America... just... why... I didn't even like Aspen as a character, but damn - America had a serious relationship with him! And she treated him like dirt on her shoe! I couldn't have agreed more with Kenna when she said, "You're using him as a safety net? America, how could you?"
I didn't buy America's regret or sadness, either. Aspen just wasn't as handsome as Maxon, in her opinion. Which, BTW, brings me to the next issue.
Problem #2:
Keira Cass really tries to get us to believe that Maxon is WAY HOTTER than Aspen. But for some reason, this didn't sit well with me. I kept imagining it the other way around. Why?
Well, maybe it was because Aspen had this mysterious, edgy air about him. The secrecy with America, the difficult childhood, and the protectiveness. I know it's strange, but I picture Maxon almost like Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid, only more dorky and shorter.
Even in that *steamy* little scene, I still didn't think Maxon was hot. It all seemed so laughable.
Problem #3:
America had way too much self-doubt. She kept acting like such an idiot, when she could do so much for her people.
Problem #4:
The castes = the districts. Talk about plagiarism. It's like The Hunger Games, but less cool.
What'd you think?
I finished it too. I agree that are many MANY flaws. I could nitpick about this series all day. But overall, I really enjoyed it and flew threw it so fast. I just couldn't give it less than five stars based on my reactions throughout the book. I giggled, I gasped, I was rooting for the characters, and I got so frustrated. But that's not a bad thing. Sometimes it good that book can make me feel that way!I totally agree about the Elite. All it was, basically, was America flitting back and forth from Maxon and Aspen. There was hardly any rebel action or anything of importance. In my opinion, Cass could have skipped writing the Elite(instead, expanding the One to include important things she left out and a few essential parts from the second book). It would have been so much more readable.
I'm...iffy...on the love triangle thing. I usually like love triangles. They stir up conflict and generally provide awkward moments(who doesn't love those?) But I was NOT a fan of this one. I never liked Aspen that much and I hated that America was so wishy-washy! BUT I think that changed a lot in this book. Yes, America had some doubts about Maxon in this book, but she had finally made up her mind that she wanted to be with him! I was so relieved that they could work through things without Aspen being much of a factor.
Lol. Your second problem. Ummm...I don't know. Maxon's personality is a little on the dorky(CUTE dorky) side, but he's still pretty attractive in my mind. Ahem.
I don't know if you read my status updates, but I had quite a bit of the book figured out beforehand. The only thing I wasn't SURE of was Kriss, but I had my suspicions that she was a rebel, or up to something at least. I SO wanted there to be more to her and there was! I'm glad the author decided to go that route.
Some of my favorite parts were when the girls started really developing their friendship. They all got so close(even Celeste!). That was a shocker. I ended up kind of liking her. I loved the part where they all summoned Maxon and then slammed the door in his face. That was gold.
It did move a bit too fast in my opinion(and I still wanted more rebels!) and, like I said, I think The One could have been expanded into two books at the cost of The Elite. But, oh well.
I'm sorry you didn't like it much. At least it was a quick read!

I agree! I loved it when they did that to him! And then the way that he asked, "Can I come in?"
Lol. And Kriss: "No. We just want the camera."Maxon is almost too adorable. And in his letters! "These letters are so embarrassing. I’ll have to burn them before you get home."
He's too cute. I just wish he would have chosen earlier on to fight for America instead of being like, "Oh, well, I have to keep my options open." I mean, I understand that, but it's still frustrating.
