What is the best order to read these?

Maybe a bit of a dumb question, but for those of you who have read this series...what order would you recommend reading them in? I know Fire is a companion novel, so not necessarily a prequel/sequel...but as far as story line and spoilers, what do you suggest?

Thanks!!

It saddens me whenever people say that Fire is irrelevant, because honestly, that's the best book out of the series, although it's not as directly related as the other two.

And order DOES matter in this series; in that if you haven't read the first two books, don't read Bitterblue. However, you can juggle between Fire and Graceling for which one first.

I read Graceling first, but when I recommend it to friends, I always recommend Fire, but that's just my personal opinion.

I've only read the first book so far. I remember members of this website informed me that all three books can go in any order. The second book, Fire, tells background information that is said in the first book. The third book, Bitterblue, is more of a sequel to the first, but the main characters of the first won't be in there much, I think.

Well, I read Graceling, then Bitterblue, then tried to read Fire. However, I couldn't finish Fire because I felt like I already knew everything that was going to happen because I had read the other two.
So basically, don't try to read it in the order I did is all I can say

Aderonke I read Graceling and Bitterblue but I haven't read Fire and I don't think I'm going to. I would say Graceling, Fire, then Bitterblue. ...more

I read Fire first because I didn't realise it was second in a series and it's my favourite book out of the series. It has wonderful beautiful but deadly creatures in and has a more fantasy charm than the others. It didn't stop me from enjoying the other books. Though, if I read Graceling first, I might not have picked up the other books, as there were issues I had with Graceling.

It doesn't really matter because in all of the books they have a completely different plot and they explain everything in each book. I would definitely recommend reading Graceling before Bitterblue, but it won't matter whether or not you do.

The first and third, Graceling and Bitterblue, should be read in that order (Bitterblue is a sequel to Graceling some years later but with a new main character. The events in Graceling set up Bitterblue.)Fire is a prequel to Graceling. I didn't read that one and was not confused at all or anything while reading Bitterblueo that one doesn't have to be read in order. The main character from fire coms in at the end of Bitterblue, but she isn't important to the overall plot.

Graceling, Fire, Bitterblue. Each is a different story, so it really doesn't impact the way you read the book, but I feel that you'll have a better understanding of what the author was trying to accomplish in tying them all together if your read them in this order.

I know I'm late to the convo. But I would read it--Graceling, Fire, then BitterBlue. There are things in Fire that would take away the mystery in Graceling. If you read BitterBlue first you would have no idea who majority of the characters are, and it would also take away the mystery in both Fire and Graceling. Timeline wise, technically it would go Fire, Graceling, then Bitterblue. But my favorite book by far was Graceling. Had I picked up any of the others first, I can't whether I would continue. Graceling piqued my interest about this new world, the others kept my fire burning.

But overall, I believe Cashore wrote them in a way that they can stand alone to fit whomever's preference. All are really great!
