Judgement Overturned
My mind is a playground
I’ve sorely abused,
haunting it with ghosts
and boogey men
and standing accused
by a self-created jury
of unforgiving peers
and sentenced to prison
with imaginary fears.
I am the jailer
and I hold the key
and using my mind
I can set myself free;
un-sheet those ghosts
and put them to bed,
make those men “boogey”
to music instead,
take charge the jury
inside of my mind
and return a verdict
with words that are kind.

Deadly Weapons
Knives made of anger
stab and blind; those of despair
are the lethal kind.

Right and Wrong
If we could let go
of rhetoric
past hurts
present hardships
religious ideals
and the desires of our hearts;
we could see clearly
what needs to be done
in the present moment.
