I just finished Nemesis Games, and sadly The Spider's War has been delayed.

I need my Daniel Abraham fix. I was considering starting A Shadow in Summer, but I only have the room in my audio rotation and the few reviews of the narrator Neil Shah aren't great.

I'm not looking for him to be excellent or anything, just not terrible/distracting.

Has anyone done the audiobook that could weigh in?

Thanks.

Suzanne | 1582 comments I did the audiobook of #2 and #3 and the text of #1 and 4 of that series - Neil Shah was the reader for all though. Um...I don't remember him being terrible and his accents weren't annoying or anything. I'm mostly trying to remember if the number of characters would make it a difficult book for audio. I THINK it would be ok - there aren't more characters than in his other series. For me, Shadow was a 3 star book, but the series as a whole was really good and I gave the last one in the series 5 stars. I don't think my 5 stars are as rare as yours, but they are still fairly unusual.

Geoff (geoffgreer) I thought Audible had samples for this kind of question.

Cool. Thanks Suzanne. I may give it a shot then. I always struggle with character names in most series I do in audio, at least at the start. Dagger and Coin took me a bit if I recall.

Samples don't really work IMHO. Well I guess they do if they are all terrible all the time, but I don't really think of any audio book I've done has had a narrator that was that blatantly bad. However I didn't even try listening to the sample, so I suppose I should do that at least.
