I finished an ARC of Second Chance Summer by Jill Shalvis last night. There was a lot of angst mixed in with her trademark humor which made this one feel substantial. She manages to talk about some really serious stuff without letting it weigh down the whole story. It's a gift she has. I predict this series will do just as well as Lucky Harbor.
Just finished Elizabeth Hoyt's Dearest Rogue, I have loved this series and can't wait for the next installment.

I finished SCS too Manda. I loved it. It felt like some of her older ones. I like her Lucky Harbour and Animal Magnetism series, but I love the ones set in the Rocky Mountains.
My reads this week are either August ARCs (mostly August 25) or oldies. I'm happy to report great romance ahead: the ARCS have all been excellent so far. As for the oldies, I was delighted to find Sourcebook's reissue of D. E. Stevenson's Listening Valley on sale for $.99. I grew up reading my mother's Stevenson books, so rereading one is a connection with my mother.
Has anyone ever read any Victoria Holt (who also wrote as Phillips Carr and Jean Plaidy) I have really fond memories of her books, she started me on my journey of romance novels. It is such a pity we lost her talent for story telling.

Really DIs? I think her books hold their own really well.

No offense to any authors in our group, but I find historical's so bloody expensive. It puts me off reading them sometimes. I know in the big scheme of thing e-books are cheap compared to what I paid years ago, but in comparative terms I find historicals more expensive than other genres.

I have a paperback of Carr: A Time for Silence on my keeper shelf. It's still timely, about World War I, the fog of war, and how one secret leads to many more while protecting a friend.

Yes and no. St. Martin's is one publisher who rarely discounts their Historical Romance ebooks, but Avon, Forever, Grand Central, Sourcebooks and Penguin often do.

I just checked: author Julie Anne Long's ebooks are all on sale this week.

I went and checked, unfortunately in Australia (where I am) they're still full price. We don't get them discounted very often, if at all. So generally all my favourite authors cost me $7.00 give or take.
