An amazingly beautiful and heartwrenching book. I often forget how much I love books in verse. Having to parse the words makes each one mean so much more and this story is beautiful in it's execution.
Told from the point of view of a ten year old girl during the fall of Vietnam and the relocation of the family after, the book is full of the longing for life the way it was, the anxiety and fear of life to come and the struggle of a family trying to make the most of a bad situation.
It is easy to see why this book won the National Book Award. Every page is full of such emotion that you cannot help but feel every bit of Ha's journey. Something I will definitely be rereading!
