Josh Barnett (joshyboy98311) | 366 comments Finished Saint Odd... It was great... I should had finished it months ago. I started it back in January... it completes task 6. I also haven't been as active on here as I had planned on it. I guess part of the reason is I was trying to get to know a girl... XD

Now I am reading Paper Towns. Looking at the trailer for the movie, I think the book might fit into the task 5, vacation.

Christine | 798 comments I'm back from vacation. I went to Iceland. Its a spectacularly beautiful place. I didn't get much reading done on the trip but I had an experience that I will never forget.

I read The Scenic Route by Binnie Kirshenbaum for a character on vacation.

What's Iceland like?

What?!? You Went to ICELAND?!?! Was it really green there?

message 107: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments There's lots of waterfalls, glaciers, volcanoes and fields of purple lupine. Good food and great people, lots of sheep and horses. We were on a hiking and biking trip so we got to get off the beaten track. I saw puffins too. It was a very memorable trip.

message 108: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 3525 comments Sounds beautiful Christine! (now I have to google purple lupine and puffins lol :)

CybcA╥ (cybcat) Sara Shepard's Ali's Pretty Little Lies (Pretty Little Liars 0.5) rates high among fans of the PLL series. Me, I plodded through it.
Suffice to say this is my second read for the season's challenge - where the main characters are blondes.

I haven't noticed the main characters being blonde in any of the books I've been reading this Summer.

Rather scarce as chickens crossing a busy street.

Rachel | 3525 comments listened to the audiobook Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers- it was interesting, disturbing, funny and gross (all at the same time).

My kind of book. Experienced that one when I worked at Borders - almost 5 years ago I think now.

Dustin, you make me laugh!

I've noticed you reading mostly audible books these days. Where do you find the time to do that? Do you get most from Audible.com???

message 116: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments Another book to add to my challenge, it has s-t-r-i-p-e-s in the title,
A Wild Surge of Guilty Passion by Ron Hansen

I do audiobooks on CD. They are my friends - they keep me company whispering in my ear, along with my cat and hedgehog.

message 118: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments Do you get them from the library?

Christine wrote: "Do you get them from the library?"

I sure do. The librarians know me well. I go to a small library branch twice a week where only 3 librarians work (unless there are subs when one is on vacation). They see me pull up on my badass scooter. Sometimes I give them chocolate. We talk about the books and movies. Last night they left me a thank you note in one of my books I had on hold (for the chocolate). One of the librarians lives in my same building too. That library branch doesn't have audiobooks or music cds so I have to request them in. I will come in to pick up my holds and one of the librarians will say "Oh Good, you're here. We need to free up some space on the holds shelf" :-)

message 120: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments It sounds like you have an awesome library and librarians. I will check out what my library has to offer. My library is pretty cool too.

Sounds like a great library! I really should go to the library more-it's been too long. I do go to an independent bookstore for my physical books-I love talking to the owners. Just planning a trip there makes me happy :D

Nope, we are in Washington state now, south of Seattle, in a town called Gig Harbor.

Rachel, that is nice that you have a good relationship with the owners of the bookstore :-) We have a lot of bookstores in Boulder but since I mostly do audiobooks - the library works well for me. I have a Barnes & Noble right down the street from me that I occasionally walk to. There is another independent bookstore within walking distance from my house too. We have more than average number of bookstores for our size of city - same goes for grocery stores. Boulder has more grocery stores per capita than any other city in the nation. I rarely leave my Boulder Bubble.

message 127: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments I do like it here better. It's so green. Right now I'm watching a beautiful sunset over the Olympic mountains. Doesn't get much better than this!

message 130: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments I just finished The Invasion of the Tearling (The Queen of the Tearling, #2) by Erika Johansen

I really like this series. This is the second one of three, I think. I also just found out that Emma Watson has been cast to star as the main character. I think if you are a Harry Potter fan and liked Hermoine, you will like Kelsea. I know diehard fantasy fans are not overly impressed with this series but I am. I like that there is a dystopian element included. I like how its all been revealed and look forward for what happens next in the Tearling realm.

message 131: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments What I forgot to include in my previous posting is that it has a character who can read minds and sees visions.

Christine | 798 comments Another to add to my challenge! I seem to always wait to the last few days to get my books read.

A book by a Canadian author: Room by Emma Donoghue

Thanks for the update, Christine! I've been thinking of reading that book for a long time but keep putting it off because I know it's going to be really disturbing.

message 136: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments It is disturbing but there is also something quite beautiful about the story especially because it is written from the child's perspective. Its really hard to put into words. I was deeply affected by the book. It will haunt me.

Christine | 798 comments Just in the knick of time, I finished The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood
It counts as a book set in Canada. It will be the last book I read for the challenge. I had one more planned, a book with a musician as a character but its just not going to happen this time.
