Royal Escape from the Topic - for off topic chit chat

The first thing I thought of when I saw that you took him to a lost spring on winding roads was the Ngaio Marsh which took place at a wannabe spa. (I h..."

Oh, wow! How much fun would that be! I have a couple of kids running around that I might have to suggest it to...

What a mess it must be! Stay safe!

Well we are experiencing a rip roaring storm now Large branch on our old fig tree has broken off
I'm still intending to go to yoga, but our teacher may not be able to get through. She lives in an area prone to having the roads flooded out.

Namaste! I haven't done yoga in years but remember that much.

Only six of us turned up last night. Not great for our tutor, but I loved the extra space! Howling winds didn't make for a tranquil experience though.
Light rain this morning. :/

In answer to Susan in NC's query in another thread, Chloe's move to Australia went fine.
It was our wedding anniversary the day before & we went to Waihi Beach for lunch, then went to a lovely little village called Bowentown for a swim.
She decided to buy a notebook (as you do) a friend works in the shop & he cut her a sweet deal & came to help her with the set up. So it was very late when she completed the packing.
We had a (disappointing) lunch with Hannah's family before the airport. Unfortunately Chloe's meal was awful & she ate very little of it. On the way to the airport she went very pale & we were worried she had picked up T's bug, but it was nerves & stress. She bought some sushi just before boarding & seemed to feel better.
Hannah has started at the university (she is doing her PHD) and they moved into their apartment last night. It's unfurnished, but the previous tenants left the washing machine behind (I didn't like to be suspicious & ask if they checked if it worked) & they have bought a mattress, a large mat & a retro cocktail cabinet. She hasn't mentioned work, but I know an agency contacted her just before she left NZ.
The feeling my heart has been ripped out is starting to fade a bit. :)

It's such a long ways! Any place that you can only get to by flying is just too far away. I complain that my kids are too far, but except for the ones in San Diego and Arizona, they're all in the Pacific Northwest and with a bit of planning, can be fairly easily driven to. Except in the winter - which, thankfully, is starting to leave. Just a few more snow storms in the forecast, and we should be home free!

Stay warm and be safe! I forget the rest of the country hasn't had as mild a winter as we here in the Southeast US have enjoyed - but I did my winter penance by spending a few weeks in Illinois in December and January! ;-)

Happy Belated Anniversary! And very glad to hear Chloe and Hannah got off safely (and in healthy condition) to their exciting next chapter in their lives! (I know, easy for me to say, she's not my kiddo...but still exciting for both of them).

Hooray!

Yay, we can always use more room for books!

& I'll bet you filled them quickly! ;)

& I'll bet you filled them quickly! ;)"
I still have space for my "collections", including Heyer, but I'm wondering about some of my other miscellaneous reference works. We have a great little library up there, so I might just let a few of them go to the book sale. We'll see, since I always worry that the book I let go will be the one I next need!

& I'..."
Yes! The book you think of at 11 pm that you absolutely MUST reread right now!

Yes, or that article about apple leaf curl from 1932, and that essay by who'sit about the essence of morality, but he didn't mention morality exactly so googling won't help! And what if Google dies...

Perish the thought!

Our town at different stages was cut off both north & south & some businesses were closed either because they had flooded or the staff couldn't get in. The charity shop I volunteer at was open, but closed early as my boss was worried about trying to get home at high tide!
My home is in the hills, so no danger of flooding, but I'm worried about the winds. Currently calm, but forecast to start up again this afternoon. :(

We have flood warnings, too, Carol! The huge snowfall that we had this winter is trying to melt too fast, and the rivers are over-flowing. We, too, are on a hill, so we're ok, but it's amazing to see the little rivers running downhill where none have run before and the actual rivers overflowing. I'm just worried about all the people below all the dams which are at bursting point!

Stay safe Karlyne! We are going for a walk soon, as we are likely to be cooped up for the next 36 hours. & a local has posted that all their apples have been shaken off the tree so for everyone to come help themselves.

Edit; my husband made a beautiful apple pie with some of the apples. Our tomatoes were nearly finished & what is left are ruined.

Ah, we had such a bumper crop! So all good. I might go pick through the ruins later.
Enjoy your visit with your son, Susan!

I borrowed eAudio book The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne from one one of the public libraries I use via Hoopla (a US vendor that provides public libraries with eContent).
Under "Similar Artists" heading, Georgette Heyer is included!

How do they determine similar artists? Is it based on amount of dialogue versus descriptive writing?
* Food usage is for example only; I am neither comparing either author to the above foods nor stating that writers can be categorized as easily as food.
