Fantasy. I don't remember any details about the magic system.
I read it definitely within the last decade, though the last 5-7 years is likely more accurate. I don't know when it was published.
I don't even remember for sure if the main character was a boy or girl, but I am leaning toward girl. Her brother may have even been very involved in the story. He may have been wounded or poisoned at some point. The people they travel with may be untrustworthy and the ones who hurt him.
She travels to the forest/jungle (I really think it is a jungle) and stays with/learns from the clan that lives there, I think in treehouses up in the canopy. I also feel like the color/type of clothing the jungle-dwellers wear is significant to the story, if only to differentiate them from other groups of people.
I also feel there is an element of danger or urgency, maybe because the brother is poisoned.
In my head, it feels Shannon Hale-esque, but that may just be because I'm reading the Goose Girl series with my husband. :)
