I finished the book...the ending kind of hints that MAYBE Rhysand could be her mate. Thoughts? I will probably get a lot of hate for this but I don't think Tamlin is her mate...I KNOW I KNOW the two went through a lot together but I just feel like the whole Tamlin/Feyre relationship is forced. Anyways, do you think Rhysand was shocked because he could smell she was his mate or do you think it is something else he sensed?

There are actually 2 other discussions about this that both have many comments ;) I commented on both so I feel kinda overdone commenting here too. But to answer your question; Nope. I have many posts about it in the other discussions if you'd like to know why ;)
I posted this in another thread.This is evidence that others mentioned before (sorry, I can't remember all who said this so I can't give direct credit). Evidence in the book that supports Rhys being Feyre's mate:
In the beginning Feyre mentions that she painted the dressers for herself and her sisters. Nesta had flames (many think that she will be with Lucien), Elain had flowers, and more specifically roses, leading some to believe that there's a possibility of her ending up with Tamlin. Feyre painted whorls and stars on her dresser. Seems like foreshadowing.
When Feyre is in the dungeon cell, she hears music that takes her away from the here and now and brings her out of her depression. She mentions seeing a palace in the sky made of moonstone. Clearly this is not Tamlin's home. It would make sense if this was the Night Court since Rhys has wings and could live in a palace in the sky and, well, Night Court... moonstone... (she also mentions that the one she loves is within this place in her vision)
Just before she had said vision she mentions that she thinks the music is a hallucination because when she looks up at the ceiling in the dungeon she sees "the vast expanse of the starry night sky..." This could be more foreshadowing of the bond between her and Rhys or could possibly be Rhys's own doing through the tattoo.
Waaait. It this theory relatable to his expression in the end?

Do you have any ideas for what else it might have been? There's several other theories floating around that don't have anything to do with the mating bond.

I thought she was pregnant for like 3 seconds.... idk. But then I immediately thought that it was the mate thing. I'm really hoping it is. I also agree with your previous post/theory about each of the sisters. I remember reading somewhere, that Maas left little clues in her books like that.

I like Rhys quite a lot.
I love Rhys! I didn't realize how much I liked his character until I finished the book. Now that I'm rereading, knowing that Tamlin needed Feyre to fall in love with him to break the curse, everything he does when she first comes to the court seems so contrived and a bit tainted. He just tried way too hard. I feel like in the second book it will not seem like true love as it seems in the first book.

I love the asshole type characters and he seems to have MUCH more depth than Tamlin.
And I agree, I think it's more of puppy love and being together all of the time, AND not really associating with any other males on Feyre's part.
I think she only loves him because well... he's her first love. She prolly never felt like that when it came to a guy. Not to mention, he truly cared for her and was nothing but kind.
Even if it was to break the curse.
I'm sure they have genuine feelings buuuuuut won't last.

Im honestly going to be SO DISAPPOINTED if she doesn't end up with Rhys, and picks the vanilla Tamlin.
I'm rooting for Tamlin and Feyra. I like Rhys for the most part but the part where he gave her the drink that made her forget the previous night didn't sit too well with me. I think the mark Rhys left on Feyre isn't a mate bond but something else.

I think the mark Rhys l..."The tattoo isn't the mate bond, of course. The mating bond between them isn't confirmed in any way right now. I also don't think it would be something visible but who knows. It just seems like they had a very strong connection to the point where a part of her soul stayed with him after she died.
To me, the idea that Feyre is Tamlin's mate doesn't seem completely confirmed - they obviously love each other, but the attachment Feyre had for Tamlin could just be the emotions she had for him from when she was a human. If he's not her mate, then there will probably be some emotional distance between them in the next book. Also, we know that Miss Maas has no issue with removing her main love interest, from other novels, so it's entirely possible. Plus, the hints shown in kristin's post just make the idea of a Rhys/Feyre pairing more likely. (plus, the idea of them having a Persephone/Hades storyline just sounds incredibly intriguing to me.) I personally just hope that it's not revealed that Feyre is pregnant, like other theories suggest.

If she's pregnant, imma be kind of upset over it.
And also, that's what I like about Maas; she's not afraid to change love interests.
The only thing that somewhat worries me is that Maas mentioned on Teitter that book two would be about "battles, babies, and weddings". There is a picture on her Pinterest that has someone looking very much like Rhys protecting a baby against some creatures. Her post could be very misleading and if there's a baby I just hope that it's someone else's entirely.
I saw that too and was wondering. Dannng... now I see how plausible that baby theory is.
My only rebuttal to all that is that there are other characters she has pinned for book 2. The baby could be one of theirs and she's just leading us on.
I hope so. Simply because it seems strange to suddenly include a baby? At least in my point of view. I mean, there are quite a few ways the story could go, but if Feyre becomes pregnant that will most likely become the centre point of the series. Never mind getting used to becoming a High Fae, and living with Rhysand for a week of every month, or whatever.

There aren't that many pregnant MCs in YA and when there is one it's the pregnancy that makes the plot of the story. I don't really see it fitting in with the direction the plot seems to be heading with Hybern on the horizon.

There's several images of Rhysand's mother and father on her pinterest, as well as a teenage Rhys. So I think his back story and family history will play a big role in book two.
I have zero interest in pregnant Feyre as the center of the plot. Like...please no.
Yeah, pregnancy in YA is not my thing. It's usually tragic and depressing and I just don't see it having a place in this story.I would really like to see more of Rhys's past. I feel like we've only scratched the surface of his character.
Not mine either. I mean, of course I eventually want my OTP's to have families but when I'm reading about the development of a relationship and building that slow burn, I don't want pregnancy thrown in there. Like once they get together, if an author did a spin off with the characters older with a family, I'd be down for that. But with Feyre being 19, now a high fae, the stuff with the king, potentially spending a week a month with Rhys....that's plenty going on.
I'm all about the slow burn! I'm looking forward to much of that in this series. It's a bit off topic but have you read The Raven Cycle series? Blue and Gansey are the most amazing couple I have ever had the pleasure of reading.
I haven't! Is it told in multiple POV? If so, that was the reason I haven't read it. I don't tend to like the execution of MPOV's. lol But I may have to give it a shot!
It's told in the third person so while it could technically be called an MPOV, the narration is seamless. The first book is called The Raven Boys and it's by Maggie Steifvater. I cannot say enough good things about this series. I don't know what it is but there's just these moments that took my breath away. I have laughed and I have cried with this series. It also introduced me to my favorite artist, Adam S. Doyle. He's done the illustrations for all the covers.
The Raven Cycle is such a good series. I liked it the first time I read it the month it came out, and ive been keeping up with the series, but during the summer I re read them all and I was so surprised because I didn't remember them being so good! (And the ships... BlueXgansey, RonanXAdam. All quality.) It is multiple POV but it's executed quite well, so you aren't constantly flipping back to see whose PoV it is because the characters personality comes through really well. I'm all for team Rhys.
