SOLVED. earths stars go out and is covered by a forcefield that slows its rotations down, humans are sent to mars. [s]

The book is set on earth but have a race of humans on Mars. The main protagonist is at first a child and they notice the stars go out in the sky, eventually we learn it is a kind of forcefield protecting us as the world is slowed down. His best friend becomes a world renown scientist who launches a program to get the human race to Mars, one of the humans returns from Mars as a 10th generation or more Martian with the hope they can save them and he becomes a minor celebrity. The protagonist becomes a doctor and cares for his best friend and bf's sister as they need to be vaccinated to travel (I think to Mars) which transforms dna. Eventually Mars gets this forcefield too.

I read it about 2 maybe 3 years ago but I don't know when it was published it was on my iBooks.
