Preparing for Embassytown: welcome

I read The Scar last year and was disappointed, but I recently read TC&TC with this group and thought it very good. Fingers crossed for Embassytown...

I enjoyed the discussion of TC&TC so it will be nice to see new people plus the old crowd joining in with Embassytown. :)
..and you kept things going nicely over at TC&TC, Cecily, so i'm glad to see you'll be along for the next one.
We may make a Mievillian of you yet... ;)

I want to be one... I'm just not quite there yet. ;)

I received an invite to Embassytown and I think it disappeared before I answered the question about participating. Maybe I did or not but this is confirmation that I'll join in.
Frankly, I was not taken with the last selection and I've gotten pretty picky about what I'll read these days. There's just too much great stuff out there I haven't gotten to yet. I'll give this one a shot though.

After Embassytown we'll be taking a bit if a break from our CM reading, so if you're getting a bit tired of him, don't worry, we're taking a breather in April/May.

That you are, Annie, that you are! In fact, i think you have the honor of being our very first member. :) (except for the 2 founder mods, of course).
Well, it's good to have such a dedicated Mievillian in our ranks.
We really must arrange an author interview with CM this year, you know.

I'm excited to revisit Miéville sci-fi world! See you all on March 4th.

Thanks, Trav! I'm not completely recovered yet but finally I'm able to function. And I'm ready to put this functionality to full use (after a night shift tonight and a slep break tomorrow during the day).

Well all the best, i hope it's a quiet night and that the lil' babies will decide to stay inside their nice and cozy snug little place there in the darkness for tonight, and decide to leave wanting to pop out into the world until tomorrow, he he.

And I hope you're continuing to recover, Nataliya.

And I hope you're continuing to recover, Nataliya."
I'm so glad you're enjoying it, Cecily! I can't wait to see your take on it.

Welcome, Tim! Both to Goodreads and to Mievillians. I hope you'll enjoy visiting here, and looking forward to having some good discussions with you. :)
@ Andrea : Oh, I'd be so glad if you had the time to join in, Andrea! :)

My favourite is Perdido Street Station, the first one I read.

That sounds very good to me, Nataliya. A slow read fits my own very-distracted mental weather and life pace ATM. :)

The next one will follow tomorrow - I need to fit in some medical reading tonight, so I will start only with one thread today.
Tim, Andrea, Mosca, Phil and Kris - so excited to see you guys here!

Time schmime. We'll manage somehow. :)

Just be grateful it's SO much shorter than Perdito Street Station. ;)

Hey, we have a month, don't we? That should be plenty of time for a slow leisurely read. No need to rush, especially since I'm slow at posting the threads.

My Kindle version claims this is only 345 pages (but Kindle versions always seem shorter). I read it over 2 nights the first time, I think.

You can't believe everything you read on the internet. ;)

I'm useless at the internet. I can't even believe everything I write on the internet.

For anyone who didn't see it, I placed a link to a podcast of an interview with China in the online folder (?) a few days ago. He has been in Australia promoting Railsea.

Darn you, Cecily! You've convinced me on Embassytown. Should I believe you since you're on the internet? You are interrupting my Proust dreaming!

@ Aloha - Don't believe anything you read on the internet. That includes this statement.

If it is the same for you, are you able to insert details of Embassytown and the timeframe?
I can't do it, because I'm no longer a moderator.

I forgot at first to fix that with the switchover to the previous read as well, tsssk.

Nah, I figured it out; the menu makes it pretty self-explanatory.

Welcome, Jim; so nice to see you here! I can't wait to see your input in the discussion.

With that said, I am REALLY looking forward to some quality time with wonderful friends on GR, and in these discussions. I truly appreciate all the steadfast friend support from both of you and from many others on GR – I love you all! I am optimistic about my future, and excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.

Kris, it's nice to see you popping in here as well!
I hope that we'll soon see more of you both!

Jim, I'm so glad to see that you are doing better! Health issues are difficult, but I hope that everything, including your health, will be getting much better. I'll join Kris in sending all the good thoughts your way!

Traveller, thanks so much for your greetings and well-wishes also! You have been a great and loyal friend, and I really appreciate your efforts in organizing this wonderful group, and continuing to contribute even with your frantically busy schedule.
I know that all of you are extremely busy, and Nataliya, I was really sorry to hear about your struggles with the horrible flu of this year. It means so much to me that you take the time to send your greetings and well-wishes. You are all awesome!
We can use this thread to clock in, get to know one anther (if we don't already), get stoked, and post material relevant to our upcoming discussion.
