Hey, if that's what you feel like reading now, then go for it! I think most of mine will have beautiful animals on them.

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Still reading Toby's Room. Parts are a bit disturbing, and then there's the war, so it's not a fun story, but once I start reading it, I get lost in it. Won't be reading anything it tonight though, after a 12 hour workday, I can't focus on anything (it's a good thing you can't see all the errors in my typing before correcting them). But I did manage to start and finish Another Man's Moccasins. I started Birds of a Lesser Paradise: Stories which is disappointing so far. I wasn't even sure when the first story ended and the next one began. :~D I like Cassandra Clare's narration in chick lit, but she doesn't give these stories depth. And she's reading slowwwwlyyyy - and my cd player doesn't have a speed control. I'm determined to finish it since it's only 6 discs, and I really hope the stories improve.

Melissa | 298 comments Thx for validating me jmom :-)

I am confused on the original Sherlock series by Doyle! Can someone help??
I was going to read at least one for the Toppler and it would also count towards my Year Long Challenge. The complete series I have on ibooks is showing way more than GR and fictfact show...i'm not sure what to do... :-(
And it's a Toppler, I have insomnia and can't figure out what to read! Argh!!

message 254: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Melissa - I see 5 Sherlocks on your tbr - which one are you questioning?

message 255: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 298 comments The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
Even Fict Fact shows it's the next novel in the series to read (Ive jumped around a bit), but the ebook (iPad iBook) I have shows several short stories. One ebook on GR says 148 pages, another says over 300...

message 256: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments It looks like the paperback books all have over 175 pages, so I'd say Adventures qualifies. I think a lot of ebook providers use different methods to get number of pages. Since several versions on GR show enough pages, I'd ignore FictFact on this one. So go solve some crimes!

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I finished my first book, Forrest Gump. I started off enjoying it but the further the book progressed the more bizar it all became.

My second book is The Silver Linings Playbook which I've been wanting to read for a while. I hope I can get it finished in time!

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4026 comments Tasha, I just finished reading The Giver. It's a very short, quick read.

How was Forrest Gump in relation to the movie?

I'm a little over half way through Gathering Blue and I think I'll finish The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time tomorrow. I might be able to fit in a fourth book for the toppler!

message 260: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I don't know KimeyDiann. I've seen the movie once, and that was probably over 15 years ago. I don't remember enough of it to compare the two.

Canadian Dragon | 1020 comments About 50% through Life of Pi should finish today or definitely this week Going to start The Giver too was way too tired to read last night. Going to get my hair cut and coloured today it definitely needs it.

Melissa | 298 comments Thanks Jmom!!!!

message 263: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Travels with Casey by Benoit Denizet-Lewis is so boring so far..there have been some cute dog moments but all in all I am not liking this book so far. No wonder it was on clearance :p

message 264: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie But on a happier note..it is nice to be sitting outside on the patio with Blake laying at my feet :)

message 265: by Canadian Dragon (new)

Canadian Dragon | 1020 comments Spreadsheet is updated :) Please check to make sure all the books you have reported are there, please let me know if I have missed anyone :)

We are really doing great and I hope everyone is enjoying their books and their week reading :)

Roz | 4530 comments I read Replay for the World Fantasy Award. It was also one of the recommended books for the Big Brother Says challenge based on a 5 star book. Really liked it.

message 267: by Debra (last edited Jun 16, 2015 03:31PM) (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Finished A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail for another humor book.

Started The Giver for the Newbery Medal.

message 268: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 2100 comments Does anybody know whether Nicole is still participating in the Toppler? I noticed she is the only one who hasn't reported any books, neither has she written anything here after June 2.

message 269: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I have no idea Camilla.

My weekend to london got cancelled, so I will have two more days for reading. Sure can finish the second book now.

Sorry about the cancellation! But yay for the reading time!

message 271: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I have about an hour left in Birds of a Lesser Paradise: Stories and it has improved greatly after the first few stories. Don't know what I'll listen to next.

About 100 pages left in Toby's Room. I should finish it tomorrow night. Then I'll read either The Scrapbook of Frankie Pratt or Giant George Life with the World's Biggest Dog by Dave Nasser . Look at that face!!

message 272: by jaxnsmom (last edited Jun 16, 2015 10:45PM) (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments She posted on the 13th that she was on a 12 hour car ride (don't know where to). She may be waiting to finish a book. She's missing some good chatter, but hopefully is having fun.

message 273: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 2100 comments I made some changed to my planned Toppler reading. It turned out that I didn't like The Drowning Girl at all, so I ditched it after only about 10 pages and started Not So Funny When It Happened: The Best of Travel Humor and Misadventure instead (works for humour). It's hilarious! Plus a quick read, which is always a bonus with Toppler books.
I'm also doubtful about another book I planned to read during the Toppler, Blindness. It looks quite tedious, with awfully long paragraphs and no dialogue, so I am at least postponing it after the Toppler. Will start another humour book instead, Answering 911: Life in the Hot Seat.

message 274: by Tejas Janet (new)

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Spencer and I now are both listening to Neuromancer. Not understanding it all, but oh well. It's confusing, but we're getting the main story. It won Hugo and Nebula awards in 1984-85.

message 275: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Good morning team! I woke up way to early and have a little headache but nothing some tea won't fix :) I would really like to finish my book today. Fingers crossed :)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I had a WTF moment last night reading The Giver. I got to page 68 and WHAT?!!! 10 missing pages! Picking up a, hopefully, ENTIRE copy today at the library. Just when Jonas gets his assignment!

message 277: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Oh no, Debra! That is extremely frustrating!

I Finished The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time this morning for The Alex Award category.

I have a really hard time rating this book. It was interesting and kept my attention, but it made me feel a lot of negative emotions... But I also consider a book that can bring forth true emotion while reading a good book, even if those aren't good emotions. Ultimately I give it 3.5 stars because it was interesting, but I can't say I loved it.

message 278: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Oh no Debra! Good thing you can get a new copy today already :)

I read that some years ago KimeyDiann, but I don't remember much. I rated it 4 stars I think but I also read A Spot of Bother and didn't like it much at all.

I'm reading The Silver Linings Playbook and I'm enjoying it a lot.

message 279: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I should have no problem fitting one more book in for the toppler so I'm going to read/listen one that I've meant to read since I was a kid but never have... The Adventures of Tom Sawyer! It will fit in the Classics Category.

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Got a completed, yet falling apart, copy of The Giver and finished it. Not sure I understand what happened in the end. Am going to reread the last few pages.

Started a reread of Mr. Mercedes for the Edgar Award. Needed to reread it so I can read Finders Keepers. My memory is so feeble, it seems!

message 282: by Nicole (new)

Oh Debra, that's horrendous! I'm glad you were able to get another copy, it's such a wonderful book.

I've had that happen with an audiobook - it had two disc 4s and no disc 5. I remember reading a paperback and getting to the end, and the last 16 pages were missing. I could probably be heard screaming miles away.

message 285: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Pragya: I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on the book.

message 286: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I just finished Gathering Blue and even though I really enjoyed the book, the ending left me wanting more. As soon as the toppler is over I'll be continuing and killing the series! Supposedly the 4th book ties the other three together so I'm really excited to get to it.

I also stated on Tom Sawyer, I'm only on chapter 3 or 4, but so far I'm not impressed. :(

message 287: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I asked on another thread already but i thought I'd ask here too:

The kindle edition of a book i want to read says it is 176 pages. I still can't use it for the Toppler bc the first edition that shows up on GR says 169 pages, is that correct?

message 288: by Canadian Dragon (new)

Canadian Dragon | 1020 comments I feel really bad but I cant seem to like Life of Pi it is just not my kind of book. I really tried to trudge through it since I am 60% but life is too short and it isn't getting better

On a good note I finshed The Giver I might just read Gathering Blue as my next book but I worked today and tomorrow and after 12 hour days I am zonked

We generally go by the edition you read for the challenges, so I imagine it would for the toppler as well. If it's an audiobook or ebook that doesn't show page numbers, you go by the first book that comes up in a goodreads search.

message 290: by Stephanie (new)

Good to hear from you Nicole. Did you have (or still having) a good trip?

message 293: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Curtis (nstaubin84) | 34 comments Lol I am alive, just been quiet and trying to find time to read. My niece loves her aunt time. I'm hoping to get my second book finished. I tried starting the "Bones" books but I couldn't get into it. I think it's the writing style... Or my mood.

message 294: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments I just finished The Sea by John Banville. It won a Man Booker prize. The prose is beautiful, and the ending is powerful. While reading most of the book it seemed more like a collection of anecdotes or reminiscences than like a story, but everything came together at the end. I will probably give it four stars, or possibly five, but I need to think about it for awhile first.

I just finished Gathering Blue and I really enjoyed it. I think I liked it better than the Giver. But I am not a fan of the way Miss Lowry ends her books.

@Jmom, Messenger, book three in The Giver Quartet is the book I'm asking about. It shows up as 178 pages on amazon (and GR) for the kindle edition.

message 296: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I FINALLY finished Travels with Casey by Benoit Denizet-Lewis for the beauty category. I was very disappointed in this book :( Jaxnsmom, if you read it, I hope you like it better than I did.
I feel like there were things the author shouldn't have written about because they didn't pertain to the story and then there were things he didn't elaborate enough on. Oh well. Not all dog books can be great but I really think they should be, lol :)
Off to report!

message 297: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I've started listening to Devil Bones (Temperance Brennan, #11) by Kathy Reichs for Emmy Award. At least since I'm listening to this one, if it gets boring I can do other stuff while I listen to it :)

message 298: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Too bad Stephanie :( hope the next one is better!

I finished The Silver Linings Playbook which was great :)
