"If you stare at the center of the universe, there is a coldness there. A blankess. Ultimately, the universe doesn't care about us. Time doesn't care about us. That's why we have to care about each other" (Levithan 320).

Does this at all ring true in your life? In characters' lives whom you've read in literature? What does this mean? Defend, Refute or qualify:

This idea is also presented on Pg. 214, "I spend the rest of the night staring into that blank space. And I can't help but feel it staring right back."

Brendan Monahan | 4 comments This statement is true because in the grand scheme of the world, we are like specks of dust floating through space. No matter how hard we try to make time stop moving foreward, it still keeps going. We are all caught in the wires of time and they are inescapable. In all of our lives and in the lives of most charachters in books, we are trying to make some kind of impression on the world and leave behind some kind of legacy, but time is impartial. Time is always moving and we are all trying to keep up with it, which is the great equilizer in life. No one can beat time.

Matt Fittipaldi | 3 comments I believe people do care about one another. People are brought together by common goals and themes and it leads to a greater community caring for one another. For example our friends and family care about us personally, but so do our fellow countrymen, parishners, colleagues, and human beings. Sometimes it's easy to feel like no one cares about you but almost 100% of the time this is not true. In the book I'm reading The Handmaid's Tale the women care for each other.

Nick Rose | 5 comments This statement rings true in my life. It's humbling to think that our world keeps turning, no matter what goes on in our life; it's a comforting idea and it is also motivation to spend the time we have on this earth wisely. Life is just a moment in time, so we must utilize that time by spreading good vibrations to as many people as possible.
