Honestly the only reason I'm a bit bothered, and I'll get over it, quickly. Is because this would've definitely helped teams I've been on in the past, because there were some pretty stacked teams, and I never got any equalizer points, and I know we had less players, but whatever, I'm done I will no longer complain, well today anyways ;-)

Wow! So we're losing even though we have read more books, pages, and buddy reads. No offense to anyone else because everyone has a personal life that comes first. However most of our points have come from 3 or 4 team members, and they got more points adjusted than our "active" teammates contributed. It doesn't really seem fair to me, but I'll go with it.
I am just sad because we could have finally won a challenge, but I understand why this change was made. I do feel kind of unmotivated now, guess I will just read what I was going to but not push myself. It reminds me of The Chase challenge, when we were so close until the massive pile of reviews came.
I agree Markus. I am definitely unmotivated because there doesn't seem to be a point in trying anymore. They are 90 points ahead now.
Marcus, that is exactly where my brain went to. I'm guessing I just don't understand why they were given 18,000 pages for a single player, nobody on this team has read that much,
Jackie, actually it is not your fault it is all of us that have read so many books this year's fault ;-) you're on vacation enjoy yourself!
Guys let's not give up! I'm going to figure out exactly what extra points they were given, and then let's just try to beat them on a level playing field, it will be a kind of self motivated victory!
So it looks like they got 117 points as equalizer points, so it is over 18,000 pages closer to 20,000 pages we need to make up, LOL! I'm going to go read I'm getting actually very upset and if I put it all in perspective it's just a reading challenge, I just never got any eagle eyes of points!!!! ;-)
Jackie don't feel responsible. It's not your fault. The point of my post is exactly what Berit said. I don't understand how they got 18,000 pages for 1 member when our active members have not even read that much after reading 20 plus books. I apologize. I should have worded my post differently.
It's definitely just a reading challenge, but anytime you work your butt off for something there is disappointment when it is all done in vain.
Agreed! I don't understand why we were put at such a huge disadvantage, we shouldn't be penalized for what we have read in the past, and I don't think they should be given so many pages and points for missing one player, they should be compensated, but not that greatlyWe went through a very similar thing in March we were winning and then somebody dropped 33 reviews on the last day of the challenge, and we lost, so this is pretty much the same thing.
No, it wasn't your post, I just feel responsible because I want to read and lessen the gap. 18,000 pages? That's insane!
@NikinniaWell said. I just think a monthly challenge should not be based on any factors other than the month itself. I wouldn't have complained if they added another member to team Z as it would even the playing field :(
Finished my I book, I will start food in a second, I need an animal book, preferably not about animals, I wouldn't mind people that change into animals, but not just animals ;-)I can't seem to find anything for that :-(
It's kind of funny but I was spying on the other teams thread, and they were concerned they would get docked points for reading too much :-)
@Christina thanks. I agree with you as well. I moved my Sarah book to beach on the cover and used the Lying Game for Sarah. I can't remember if anyone was doing Sarah, but Game was already done.
I found an animal book, a friend and another group recommended some books to me!I'm reading my food book, now it's pretty short, I might stay up, but more likely I'll finish it in the morning :-)
In previous challenges I've managed to keep the teams a bit more fairly in terms of fast and slow readers on each team. If Markus hadn't joined you, the adjustment would have worked to your advantage. You may well still win.
Berit, I don't know exactly how many books/pages etc. I will redo the counts today and see what we end up with.
Guys I feel really bad now. I feel like it is my fault that we are losing again, I really wanted to help.
You have helped Markus, massively! It's not your fault at all. I just have to try and keep things fair. If you hadn't joined the team would never have earned so many points, so they've benefitted that way. You guys were the first team to complete the second game, and will probably be the first to complete the third game too.
If you bear in mind that you guys have the best team of readers in the challenge, and the massive bonuses you get for completing sections and games, you'll see that you have the best chance of winning by trying to complete sections for bonus points as that will make a big difference ☺
Hi guys. I think I've figured it out so it's a little clearer. Our points should increase more than our number of books read. So for example if we have
450 points / 500 books read among us = 900 points
Then we all read 10 books collectively
Assuming each book is 200 pages (1 point), 1 point for the book and 1 point for the buddy, it would be 3 points per book.
Multiply by 10 books = 30 points
And we increased our total pool of books by 10 books
Therefore 480 / 510 = 941 points
Ooh ok, that's goodWe need about 60 points to get around the top. We should aim to get the bonuses for completing parts :)
If you can move things around to complete more parts, that would probably help get you the extra points.
Ok! I'll do some short reads to tick some more descriptions off this weekendWhen Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit for past
And a Throne of glass novella for fantasy :) Nearly done Sarah description so we have bullying one to complete part 1
If you are doing past then I'll do something else, honestly I didn't really want to read Peter Pan anyway. I might be able to do bullying with Fruitloops and Dipsticks, the girl is confused for a boy, but I don't know if there is real bullying. I put I Am the Messenger down, because it isn't needed, Berit did the I.Also, I read The Hunger Games which was over 800 pages, maybe we should move some things around and use it for the challenge where you have to read 800 pages?
Hiya MarkusHunger games for the 800 pages would be awesome! Saves using 2/3 books for that
And a bullying one would complete Part 1 for the bonus points :) About to type a review for Throne of Glass
I think berit and myself completed the Game/Play description so you guys will still need to read a game/play one.
I am currently reading Carrie by Stephen King and I could use it for bullying instead of Horror. i am pretty confident that I can get another Horror book at the library, I'll go tomorrow and see. I'll finish Carrie tomorrow, it's kinda slow so it will take some time.
Coolios, Looks like you're running out of descriptions too! I can't find one for I am Messenger because you've completed quite a lot of the descriptions. Carrie for bullying would be perfect.
I don't really want to read I Am the Messenger anyway, it seemed like a slow book and I wasn't in the mood for what the book looked like to be.
Okay guys, I can't get my head around the math, but that is my own problem. So, I'm going to read as much as I can, definitely finish the game, and then I think I can read what other descriptions need to be read.Marcus, I am so glad you're on this team, and I wouldn't have it any other way, it was just a shock of it all ;-)
I did say at the beginning as a challenge statistically we should win, and now I'm thinking we probably can, we just need to work a little harder :-)
Jackie read what you can while you're on vacation, but please don't stress and don't apologize!
Anna, we really need everything we can get from you, hoping your uncle is feeling better :-)
@MarkusI found Carrie quite slow even though it was short. It wasn't my cup of tea. I saw the movie and it was less weird than the book but maybe you'll like it :P
I am the Messenger at the end is also quite slow but I remember getting goosebumps at the conclusion but i've forgotten since it's been a while ;)
@Berit I feel a bit better knowing how it was calculated but not entirely lol
I still want to finish crossing off the descriptions though and maybe earn those bonus points to close off the gap :D
I guess ultimately I don't want us to get discouraged and give up, and just give the entire challenge over to the other team, if you know what I'm saying ;-)
Nakinia can switch her Sarah book to game, I think. BTW my AutoCorrect went crazy with your name :-) kept changing it to all kinds of things ;-)
I can change Hunger Games to the pages one and read Silver Linings Playbook for game/play. I think I can do it, it's pretty short.
nvm. lying game stays where it is as it replaces my previous Sarah description, and my previous Sarah description covers beach for game 3. That's the reason I moved it. I got confused for a sec. Also Markus covered game already.
