The Sword and Laser discussion
Help with the new website!
There's gotta be an artist around here who'd do up a nice background with a dragon and some books.

i probably shouldn't admit this, but when i first saw the new background image, it reminded me of pottermore -- and i immediately did a quick mouse-over of all the books to check for easter eggs.

Love that idea.

Awesome!!!

Perfect!

I liked it because it reminded me of Harry Potter.

For that matter, a photo of our illustrious host's hands toasting with a bejeweled goblet in Veronica's hand, and a clear glass of blue liquid (Romulan Ale) in Tom's, with the video show bar's backdrop would be a cool composition.

Could be the DNS, but I'm not having any issues with loading.

Mobile site is really plain. Any chance of sprucing it up a bit? And is there a way to switch to the regular site?
Also, experiencing slow load time as well.

Just thoughts, in no way am I a design artist.
I don't seem to be experiencing loading issues.

I agree that bringing the banner from the old site over would make me feel more at home.

The busier the background the slow the page loads.
Which is a consideration when using a smart phone.
At the moment its clean, elegant and loads quickly.
Needs more swirling GIFs.

Something like this:

I can't bring over the elements from the old website cleanly, it was all custom designed and I don't have the graphics.

* In the absence of a banner, the content starts pretty far down. I guess you're trying to show off the bookshelf background, but it looks a little off to me eye.
* If I make the window quite tall in Chrome, a gap between the top of the background image and the top of the window appears. Is there something funky going on with how the background image is aligned?

Don't have them or aren't permitted to use them?? Have you tried dumping things out of an archive.org snapshot of the site??

Listen to this guy. In the end, simplicity is really best, especially for the people on smart phones and tablets. And I love the white background. Very easy on the eyes. It doesn't have to look stunning, really. It's attractive and it gets the job done.

I've never been happy with that image they used... it's a samurai, not even a medieval knight :(

I'm putting together the new website, but i can't decide what to use as the background image. Any suggestions?
