Shari-amor | 5275 comments Why Are Some In The Future While Others Are In The Past!? History of the League Series

SK's answer: "The first three novels I ever published back in the early 1990's were Born of Night, Born of Fire and Born of Ice (Paradise City). Unfortunately, I sold them to three different publishers. As a result of contract stipulations, I had to break them apart and make them three stand-alone books and remove entire sections of them. I had to change character names, all "League" terms, and replot the timeline of those original 1990 books, and make it appear as if they were never a series or related in any way. Once the Dark-Hunter books came out to such immediate success, fans began begging for The League books to be published again, especially since those earlier copies were going for as much as a thousand dollars on eBay. Fortunately, I was able to get the rights of the books back from their original publishers and then offer them to my DH publisher. When St. Martin's bought the three books and republished them, I was able to go in and rewrite all three novels and put them back together as a cohesive series. Not to mention, I'd written them in my early twenties (Born of Night was written when I was just twenty years old and sold when I was only twenty-three), and I would like to think that I've improved my skills over the years. At least that's the myth I tell myself at night :) There was substantial rewriting on Born of Night and Born of Fire, but Born of Ice was tossed out and completely rewritten from scratch so that it would fit with the first two novels. It is an entirely different book from it's original Paradise City. When I originally started the series way back when, I envisioned writing the first set The League: Nemesis Rising (Nykyrian, Sin, Hauk, Darling, Caillen, Nero, etc.) where the Sentella battled against the League, and then picking up years later with The League: Nemesis Legacy with their children's lives after the war had long ended and they'd settled into the "new order." When I couldn't get those publishers to continue publishing Nemesis Rising (those two publishers had this weird idea back then that SF had stopped selling and didn't want to buy it from anyone, any longer), I moved on to Adron and Devyn's books- both of which sold, but then the publishers were sold and their lines were canceled. Adron's was originally a full novel, but was cut down to be in a novella that now appears in In Other Worlds. The publishing industry is an interesting animal. So there we have the mystery as to why I jumped forward in time from Nemesis Rising to Nemesis Legacy. I do try to stick close to time lines, but unfortunately it's not always possible. Publishing loves to keep all of us on our toes"

The League series is divided into two distinct timelines. The League: Nemesis Rising which is about Nemesis (Nykyrian) rising up against the League and the war that ensues between the League and the Sentella. Then there is the second part of the series The League: Nemesis Legacy that takes place decades after the war ends and involves many of the children of the original Sentella members.

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments Recently, we were asked by one of our members about possibly including a quick reference guide to the League. I'll admit, this won't be an easy task, as Sherrilyn has once again created a very complex world. And most of the aspects of this complex world are explained in greater detail in later books (such as the Caronese and Andarion empires, as well as the Tavali nations).

We'll start by providing a couple of links:
Official site for the League books and characters:
http://www.sherrilynkenyon.com/book-s...

You can find a lot of information on characters and such.

SK's Pinterest board for the League:
https://www.pinterest.com/sherrilynke...

Lots of good information on various League characters and details seen in the books.

Oh yeah ... and if you want to see how the various families are connected, check out this site:
http://andaria.tribalpages.com/

In the meantime, keep your eye on the next couple of posts, where the guide will be set up.

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments note: WIP

ORGANIZATIONS

1. THE LEAGUE
A military alliance initially formed to take out a cruel tyrant and then to root out government corruption via assassination. Currently the League works in conjunction with various planetary governments to maintain order; unfortunately, the League itself has become so corrupted that it now goes after any target, corrupt or innocent.

2. THE SENTELLA
An alliance formed to oppose the League and protect the innocent. The five founding members, who also form the Sentella High Command, are Nykyrian, Syn, Hauk, Darling, and Jayne.

3. TAVALI
Considered by the League to be space pirates and outlaws, Tavali is a highly organized coalition of runners, freighters, and tradesmen who do not owe allegiance to any planetary government, but rather to their own nations. Tavali citizenship must be earned.
You can learn more about the Tavali here:

PLANETS/PLANETARY GOVERNMENTS
There are many planets in the Ichidian Universe (and we'll probably never know all of them). Some are densely populated, others ... not so much. Listed below are the planets mentioned the most in the League series, with the respective governments.

ANDARIA
Home planet of the Andarion species and the Andarion empire (which encompasses several planets). The ruling family are the eton Anatoles (Nykyrian's maternal birth family).

TRIOSA
Home planet of the Triosan people (human) and the Triosan empire. The ruling family are ... the Triosans. :P
(Nykyrian's paternal birth family.)

GOURAN
Home planet of the Gourish people, including Kiara Zamir. Her father is the president of Gouran; there is no royal family.

CARON
Home planet of the Caronese people (human) and the Caronese empire. The ruling family are the Cruels (Darling's birth family).

RITADARIA
Planet best known for its prison. Syn is Ritadarion.

EXETER
Home planet of the Exeterians (human) and Exeterian empire; ruling family are the de Orczys. (view spoiler)

PHRIXUS
Home planet of the Phrixians and Maris' birth family. (view spoiler)

QILLA
A female-dominated planet that is relatively primitive; home planet of Desideria. (view spoiler)

TRISA
At this time, not much is known about this planet other than it was home to the nearly extinct race known as the Trisani. Birth planet of Nero.

Monica Daniel | 11 comments I didn't even know there was a Novella about Adron. Do we know when we will see another Legacy book?

message 6: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments Really don't know for sure, Monica. I know that there are at least three more Nemesis Rising books coming out in the next few years, so it will definitely be a while.

At the very least, some of the characters shown or mentioned in BOI, still need to be born, before we get another Legacy book. (view spoiler)

I just read Adron's story. Loved it. I am anxious for the legacy series now. :)

Cindi (ourtrumpcard) | 534 comments I just started Born of Legend and realized I had forgotten so much of this "organization". I wish there was a Friend Tree, vs. a family tree...

Monica Daniel | 11 comments Yes that would be a big help. There are so many characters and worlds in this series.

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments A "friend tree"?

That ... would be a HUGE undertaking ... O.O
