A soft glow coming from the floor and torches from a chandelier above cast his young face in odd shadows.
Come on, come on! Faster, feet!
He zipped haphazardly down halls and came to a staircase. Once he was up these (having nearly tripped a few times), he came to a long hall lined with doors. The door frames were etched with red--and decidedly flowery--patterns.
Abruptly, he made a noise and backpedaled to the first floor.
Girl's dorm...how did I get that mixed up?
Back on the first floor, he went to the left of the staircase and down another hall. The frames on this floor had a single line through them. A few glowed, showing occupancy (or the lack thereof).
Fifth door, to the right.
He crashed into the room, hopped over an unlit fire-pit in the center, and dumped the contents of his backpack onto the bed set in the wall.
His hands rifled through the items and tossed articles of clothing into an empty dresser. His bag's straps rattled.
A carving knife, half modeled block of wood, two small books, and pencil were thrown back into the bag.
With a small whoop, he slung it over his shoulders and ran back outside.
He shouted, glancing every way he could without dislocating his head. "Stephan!"
He reached the path to the Terrane building. His foot struck the path...
And he froze.
Lucas jerked away from the green-stoned road and mumbled something derogatory about rules.
He spun on his heel, looking for a path that lead to the Main Hall.

((Can I just say that this post is awesome? :D))
North came out of her room just in time to see a boy disappear down the stairs. What was a boy doing in the girl area? She was a first year student, but Thorn had explained a lot of the rules to her during his breaks. She shrugged and headed downstairs.
Her roommate wasn't there, maybe she wasn't even in the building yet. Or maybe she wouldn't have a roommate. That would be awesome. She headed out the front door. She was pretty sure Thorn was in Aqueous, and that she wasn't allowed to go there. She saw the same boy ahead of her, grumbling and looking around. "Hey," she greeted him, approaching. "You're in Pyre, right?"

"You're in Pyre, right?"

His mouth clamped shut, and his eyes narrowed. He tugged at his pack's strap. Once he'd decided that she'd asked him which house he was in, and not something about his pants being on fire, he said, "Yeah."
Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a path to a building slightly smaller than the rest.
He dashed for it. "Stephan!" Abruptly, he stopped and backtracked to the girl.
He pointed at a large sign on the top of the building, the typeface of which quickly dissolved in his sight. "That says 'Main House' right?"
[BTW, I'm attempting to build the Pyre lounge in Minecraft (Xbox version). If it ends up looking nice, I'll post pics/PM you guys. :D]
((That sounds awesome! I'm posting pics of the houses, but the Zephyr one won't load. :/))
North shrugged. "I don't know, I'm new. But my brother said it's a little farther. It's supposed to be ginormous. I was planning on heading there myself."

"Okay, bigger building, further ahead." He gave a jerky nod then took off running.
When he came to a building he considered ginormous further ahead that was by the side of a road unmarked for a particular house, he went inside (rather chaotically, of course).
No one was there yet. At least, none that he noticed.
With another sigh and defeated flop, he landed in a blue seat. Just as quickly he was up again.
He waited outside, rocking on his toes and straining to see any figures approaching from the Terrane building.
[@C.B.: I checked out the pictures, and they look great! Fantasy geek that I am, though, I was picturing something more along the lines of "small but palace-like". ;D]
((The Zephyr one still won't come up!!! Grrr... These aren't set, they're just sort of what I was imagining. If only I could plug my imagination into my computer... Also, WHY AM I SHIPPING THESE TWO???))
North put her hands on her hips. "What a jerk," she growled and stomped down the main path after him. A few kids were already heading in that direction. She reached the main building and stuck her nose in the air, ignoring the boy. Jerk. A stupid jerk. She plopped down on a red bench, worrying that she'd done something wrong. Why did this guy hate her?

[Where did the phrase "shipping" (in relation to, well, character relations) come from, anyways? Do you know??]

North headed inside the Pyre building and into the lounge on the first floor. She was excited to learn how to manipulate fire, but she knew Thorn was going to worry about her like crazy.
North went into the lounge with Esme. At the moment it was empty. "I guess everyone's getting unpacked," she said.
North found some mugs on the counter nearby. "Do you want coffee or hot chocolate?" she asked, smiling.
North grinned and moved to the other side of the counter, where a small kitchenette stood ready to use. She shredded some chocolate and put it into a pan to melt.
North stirred the chocolate. "Nope, lucky me." She wouldn't mind a sister. Or a younger brother. "I'm the baby, unfortunately."

North whistled. "That's a lot of siblings! Thorn's in Aqueous, water." She shrugged. "It suits him, I guess. He's more calm and in control."

North grinned. "That sounds like me and Thorn. Although I usually bribe him with things like, 'I'll tell Mom you...' or 'Well, I wouldn't want Mom and Dad to find out that you...'."

North smiled. "Yep." She poured the chocolate into the mugs and handed one to Esme. She slid into one of the red bar stools.

His frustration built up every time he thought about the way the letters refused to stay for him.
So, rather irate, he stalked quietly into the Lounge.
Without paying much attention to the others, he plopped himself on a chair.
Let's see...was he more tired, or angst-filled? Angst, definitely.
He pulled off his pack and retrieved a half-carved block of wood. As he worked at the body of an owl, his tongue stuck slightly out the side of his mouth.
North groaned at the sight of the jerk. Edwin came into the lounge then, though, smiling. He slid into a chair next to North. "How are you?" he asked.
"Good," North replied, smiling, her stomach fluttering. "Would you like some hot chocolate?"
"Sure," he said easily, his eyes locking with hers.
She stood up and headed into the kitchen. "You want some hot chocolate, Mr. Woodcarver? Or are you too busy?"

This was going to be perfect. He slowly drove the point into the head where he wanted the eyes to be. Not too big, with a shine, and--
Someone said something. He wasn't sure what, but the sound invaded his concentration and made him slip just enough with the knife to gouge the pupil.
He glared at the person--a girl, he thought he recognized her--and pushed down the urge to blow up at her. He managed it...until he stood up.
"Look what you made me do!"
What he said next, he wasn't really sure. He did know that he shoved the figure beneath her face, said something about "irrepairability," and somehow managed to make it to his room without yelling at anyone else.
He moved to toss his bag on his bed. And realized that he'd left it.
North quivered with anger. Or maybe from trying to keep tears back. She pushed the spoon into Edwin's hands and hurried out of the room.

Esme just shook it off and continued up the stairs.

Lucas returned to the lobby, still clutching his knife and wood block. He grumbled some more and glowered about for his pack. There, in the chair.
He stomped over, tossed his items into it, and hefted it onto his shoulders.
((Oooh, have fun! I'm helping with VBS next week, so I pbb won't be around much, either.))
North saw Lucas and felt tears well up again. She took off running down the hall and out the front door. She found a bench mostly hidden and collapsed onto it. Why did he have to yell at her like that? Others' opinions shouldn't affect her so much, but they did. And his hurt. Was he right?

Esme heard crying drift through her room's open window. She looked down and saw North sitting on a bench crying.
Esme mumbles to herself about being a good roommate, then climbed down the stairs, walked through the lounge, went outside, and sat with her upset roommate.
((Okay! I guess if everyone's leaving I might just take a full hiatus. :P))
North jumped half a foot in the air when Esme sat down next to her. Somehow she hadn't heard her coming. She pulled her knees to her chest, quickly trying to get her crying under control.

North choked back a tiny sob. "It's just this one guy, he's been rude to me ever since I got here. And I apparently made him mess up on whatever he was carving and then he yelled at me..." She let out a moan. "I don't know why he hates me so much."

Esme smiled to herself. She now felt like she had a sister that was her own age, and she liked it.
North smiled weakly. "I guess you're right. The only guys I've ever known were back at the little school Thorn and I went to. They were all jerks." She sniffed. "I was hoping things would be different here."

North grinned. "I've done some of that with Thorn, but only when I'm really mad at him. I guess Edwin's nice..."
