I have just finished reading the first two Hyperion novels and I've adored them. The two books are staggering. I am going to hold off from reading the two Endymion novels until next year in order to savour them. I have just read the posts above and I am really disappointed that Dan Simmons won't be doing the Hyperion related novellas. I don't blame him for not doing any more novels in that universe but novellas would be fantastic to have.

“Since it's been twenty years since I wrote or looked into anything Hyperionish or Endymionoid -- I recently gave up work on Hyperion audio-book novellas I owed (and paid back the modest advance) precisely because I preferred not to go diving back into that rich but complex 1980-ish riptide of waters--”
For those of you didn’t know anything about the stories, here is the announcement from Dan a little while back:
"Yes. The Shrike will be back.
(Note and caveat: I've vowed never to write another novel in the Hyperion universe and I never will -- I hate publishing infinologies and the inevitable decline in story telling they entail -- but I said nothing about returning to that universe to write the occasional short story or -- perfect for such a tale -- occasional novella. I've not talked to any publisher about it, but I see a book of five intertwined Hyperion-universe tales with the working book title of Shrike Quincunx.)".
It would have been fun diving back into the HYPERION universe again, but the man writes what he wants, when he wants and not for money! Obviously, as well as a popular series sells, this would have been easy money.
