Phantom
question
What are your thoughts?
Nesbo has become disturbingly malignant. This book about drug addiction and it's fetid affects on humans have left the genre of mystery and moved into something far less entertaining. The stories that don't add up are distracting; a rat denied access to the nest, a police officer with an ax to grind (but never does,) a knife with a curse, who is high enough to access witness protection, and the murderer everyone knows. Is he setting up for the next book without consideration for this one? I love Nesbo - correct that, I loved Nesbo. He has become far too macabre for me and I skipped The Leopard after reading the opening scene with a gruesome execution device.
I really liked the book, but didn't realize it was last in the series (until Police comes out) I was angry when I got to the end because I wasn't prepared. I just read Redeemer (in hardback/paper not available) which is #4 in the series. I expected it to follow Phantom. There is a real problem for me with translations coming to market out of order. I'm waiting for Cockroaches which is an early book until Spring 14. Won't get Police until mid Oct! This is crazy. Reading Headhunters to bide my time
I think Harry might make it. I was wondering if he had the bullet-proof vest on that he had in an earlier scene.

I loved it! I sure hope so. It would be nice if Harry could have a helpful friend.

I truly loved it! It was honestly a relief to have no psychotic serial killers, though we had plenty of run-of-the-mill killers: career criminals, drug kingpins, corrupt cops, etc. It was good to find Harry clean and sober, mostly, and as to whether he survives, the next Harry Hole novel comes out in 2013 according to Random House, so yes! and YAY!
