Nah. I'll read my mates story and then put it in an honoured place in my bookcases. :-) I've got so much reading to do. I just want to support Lady Margaret.
I tried to post about this a couple days ago, but Goodreads kept going down!I gave up and didn't go near the site over the weekend.
Read Margaret's piece in
Well done, Margaret. Very enjoyable! :-)
The point on the Holmes and Watson friendship was cleverly made. I was very proud of you.
I do love the Laurie R. King novels, better than the Conan Doyle originals, to be honest. It's not the romance, which is minimal, but the more complex Holmes that appeals to me. If you only read The Beekeeper's Apprentice, be aware that is not the best of the series. The books pick up with A Monstrous Regiment of Women and go from there. Mary Russell is a female Holmes. For me, that's the attraction. Your mileage may vary, of course. ;-)
Oddly enough, C.P.. I've just picked up A Monstrous Regiment of Women from a local opp shop. It's in my (enormous) To Be Read pile.Did you know that the Mary Russell novels have been optioned for television?
I didn't!Margaret, I really liked your piece in the just mentioned anthology: keep up posted about your next literary effort, please!!
Thanks Simona. I'm about 13,000 words in on something that is either going to be a Sherlock Holmes novella or novel. Depending on what my characters have in mind. I have discovered that Inspector Lestrade has opinions and a pretty decided character. He keeps inserting himself in sections he's not supposed to be in.
*sigh* Lestrade is demanding a scene of his own. A heroic scene at that.I'm trying to work out where to fit it in.

Ooh, I did not. I so hope the series actually gets made!

Margaret wrote: "Just started A Monstrous Regiment of Women at lunch. Only a short way in, but I'm really enjoying it. "I too love the Laurie R. King novels. My wife Virginia likes Gilbert and Sullivan, so I got her interested in Russell and Holmes by getting her a copy of "Pirate King," one of the later novels in the series. After reading that, she got intrigued, and went back and read the entire series!

Ooooh. That one really does look interesting. Must see if my library has it.EDIT: Yes they do! It's now reserved for me. :)
Yes, Pirate King is hilarious. It followed a couple of serious, intense books, so fans rather sniffed at it when it first came out. But take it as the sendup of the movie industry that it is, and you will love it.
Margaret wrote: "Excellent news. Thanks C.P."And it is, it is a glorious thing
To be a Pirate King!

My library has these also, I'm going to try to get to them next year.
Awww, thank you, Terri. The release date is October 25th... unless you are buying in from Amazon Australia when the release date is October 18th. This is because the book is being printed down here.
Just finished SHERLOCK & THE MOLLY-BOY MURDERS by Margaret Walsh!! I have not read any of the original Sherlock Holmes novels. I didn’t need to... Margaret has done a brilliant job of weaving established details of Holmes, Watson & Victorian London into her own murder mystery! Loved it!

Thanks May. I am so glad that you enjoyed it.
I have my copy of the book. Just going to finish the new Uhtred book and then I'll be starting.I am so looking forward to it. I had a quick read of the first few pages and it got me all excited to get into it.
I was lucky enough to have read the first 100 or so pages of the first draft. I thought it was just so addictive in First Draft, so I know what I'm in for.
*Please NB: and I don't say these things as a promotion because Margaret is a friend and my fellow moderator in this group. These are my true feelings. Margaret knows that if I have negative critique then I will give it. I am excited for her, but I won't say something is great if its crap. I have integrity when I review. It has got me into plenty of trouble in the past. :-)
I confess to not having written a review (sorry, Margaret) but I did really enjoy it. It grabs you from the first paragraph and that’s always a good sign.
Terri, I trust your judgement and know you are not someone to tell me something is good when it's clearly crap. That's why I wanted you to read the first draft. You have an excellent eye for detail.
Marilyn wrote: "I confess to not having written a review (sorry, Margaret) but I did really enjoy it. It grabs you from the first paragraph and that’s always a good sign."That's okay, Marilyn. As long as I know people enjoyed the book that's enough to keep me keen to write another. :D
May wrote: "No trouble here, Terri... several of us have already read it & raved!!!"Thank you again, May. :)
Terri wrote: "Finally got my review done.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show..."
Thank you for that review, Terri. <3 You are correct about the relationship. Any Sherlock Holmes story needs to walk a balance between the friendship and Holmes & Watson and the plot. It's expected.
Recently read The House of Silk by Anthony Horowitz, and didn´t like it too much.It started like a Sherlock Holmes story, but finished like a modern mystery.
Just read the blurb on House of silk, wow, that seems like a big deal that it is the first ever Sherlock book approved by the estate.
Terri wrote: "Just read the blurb on House of silk, wow, that seems like a big deal that it is the first ever Sherlock book approved by the estate."There's quite a few approved by the estate now.
I read House of Silk when it came out. Like Michaela I didn't like it much.
With encouragement from Terri :) I am sharing the news that my first book, Sherlock Holmes and the Molly-Boy Murders is now available in audiobook format from Audible. I know it is available in the USA, UK, Australia and Canada Audible stores. Not sure about in Europe.
Just finished SHERLOCK HOLMES And The Case Of The PERPLEXED POLITICIAN. I thoroughly enjoyed it! Great read: fast pace & intriguing plot!! Thank you, Margaret! 4 ⭐️
