Sherlock Holmes
Anthony Horowitz is a crap Holmesian writer in my opinion.Try David Stuart Davies
He's pretty consistent and close to the original stories in both the friendship and the spirit of the books.
The Further Adventures of Sherlock Holmes: The Scroll of the Dead is one of my favourites.
Exactly Brian. I can forgive a pastiche writer a lot if they are able to capture that beautiful friendship.Just read one last night that I really enjoyed. The Will of the Dead

It’s more than a century since the world’s most famous literary detective made his appearance, but our appetite for his startling deductions is undiminished. Adam Frost and Jim Kynvin go back to the stories in search of data to explain his enduring appealCheck it out: http://www.theguardian.com/books/gall...
Oh yeah. He was a real bugger for that. Tantalising readers with cases that "the world wasn't ready for".Probably the most famous would be the Giant Rat of Sumatra. A lot of pastiche authors have played with that one.
I am a very happy bunny at the moment. The first trailer for the Victorian "Sherlock" special has been released. On first (second, and third) viewing it appears they are being wonderfully faithfully to the traditional Holmes/Watson. I think, no I KNOW, I will enjoy the special a hell of a lot more than I enjoyed season 3.
My London trip is next week. I have two Sherlock Holmes treats planned. First is a visit to the Sherlock Holmes Museum, the other is the proms concert "Sherlock Holmes - The Music of the Mind".
I know. It's also going to be shown in cinemas. :D AND MY LOCAL CINEMA IS ONE OF THEM!!!!Now waiting for details of ticket sales.
Am a very happy bunny this morning. A have a ticket for the cinema screening of "Sherlock: The Abominable Bride" on 2nd January. :D
Rest in Peace Douglas Wilmer... Sherlock Holmes for the BBC many moons ago. Also sent up the role in the wonderful Gene Wilder film "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes Smarter Brother".Douglas was 96.
This is one of the best Sherlock Holmes pastiches I've read in a while.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I knooowwwwww. And the trailer, combined with the promo photo of Sherlock's violin with a broken string is making me very uneasy about this season.

I watched the first trailer for the upcoming season and there's a few scenes where even Sherlock looks terrified!! Whhhhaaaatttt!
Yeah. Anything that can frighten Sherlock bloody terrifies me!And Mary...killing people again!
I find myself wondering just what it is that Mycroft has done for Mrs Hudson to call him a reptile and tell him to get out of her house!
Ah..*cough* drum roll please....Our own Margaret Walsh has been published. Tales from The Stranger's Room contains Margaret's short story.
I do believe all royalties go to charity, but not certain.
Sherlock Holmes: Tales from the Stranger's Room - Volume 3
Thank you, Terri. :)And, yes, all royalties are going to charity.
The charity is Stepping Stones, a school for special needs children that now occupies Undershaw, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's home where he wrote "The Hound of the Baskervilles".

Congratulations, Margaret!
That's wonderful news. I'm so happy for you. And it's great that the royalties are being donated to a charity that works with special needs children. You must be so excited.
I am, Tamara. It's spurred me to write a Sherlock Holmes pastiche. The editor David Ruffle and another writer Narrelle Harris have been massively encouraging.I'm about a quarter of the way into writing it. The two months of research before starting, into Victorian vice and prostitution was very interesting as well.

That is so exciting and such a neat idea. I'm so happy for you. I'm sending you congratulatory hugs all the way from Kansas!
I tried to buy it...but have temporarily forgotten my damn Book Depository password. I'll have to dig out my notebook later on where it is scribbled down.

Can't bloody believe it! HAHA! I never forget my TBD password and then when I go to log in for an 'important' purchase, it has vanished from my brain.I even went and paid all the bills today so that I knew the purchase wasn't going to bounce my damn credit card. hehe.

Yay Margaret!
Got it for Kindle!!!
Now, how am I going to have my digital copy signed?!?!
The idiot brain thing got better. I sat here at the laptop and forced myself to remember my password. Too stubborn to reset it.Once I remembered it and was in, I couldn't for the life of me remember the title or author. I spent ages searching A Stranger's Chair..Stranger's Chair...Mark Duffle...Stranger's Duffle..until I gave up and came to this thread to check. Only to find that what I should have been searching for on Book Depository was A Stranger's Room by David Ruffle.
A miracle it was that I then managed to remember my Paypal password. :/
Oh well...I got there in the end.
I am the proud new owner of Margaret's first published piece.
haha. Yes. I definitely made sure of that! They aren't cheapies, I'd hate to have to go back and buy the right one. :D
I'm not sure how to review Stranger's Room 3 when I get itTricky one.
I'm only interested in reading Margaret's story, so I wonder if it is fair to leave a star rating for just one story and not the whole book?
I'll say in the review what the situation is of course. But the star rating thing will give me pause for thought.

Years ago I read the original. And I liked it, not over the top, but ... okay.
A few weeks ago I started
I asked someone who already read it, if I was right and that was that. I Couldnt finish it. Why should I?
Damn.
What´s wrong with me?
I really try to like Holmes Books, but I really cant get into the stuff
