That book keeps coming up on Goodread's Recommendation list for me. You'll have to tell me how you like it.

Still haven't yet read any cussler. Hes good?"

I think he's fantastic. I've been reading his books since I was 14."

I'll have to make an effort to check him out which series is the best to start with?

I've read all his books and loved everyone of them. I do have to say that I loved his first four books the best. They are not part of the Sigma series.
Excavation, Subterranean, Ice Hunt, Amazonia.

They are such intricate books, Sharon. I missed a lot on my first time around with The Passage, so I'm glad I re-read it before going on to The Twelve

message 59: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie I finished Witch-Hunt: Mysteries of the Salem Witch Trialsand thought it was very good! Not just for kids, although it is a YA book. Clear, informative and to the point, without all the erroneous hearsay that surrounds this topic.
My review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

I am also listening to books about American Independence and so I decided to follow the same vein and read The Winthrop Woman, to better understand the Puritan faith. I loved this author's Katherine. I am hoping it will be equally good. This is historical fiction that doesn't play around with the facts, only what is not known, such as emotions and thoughts and dialog are added.

just sent The Passage to my mom. I haven't read it, not my type of book. But my mom loved The Road, so I thought maybe. they are both post-apocalyptic.

Sorry to hear you are not having a good read with On the Jellicoe Road. I read it last summer. I thought it was a pretty good story.

thanks Cherie, I guess it's just not my kind of book. I rarely read YA, that may have something to do with it.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I am reading Everything Beautiful Began After by Simon Van Booy . I am reading it for the Feb. Toppler. It is kind of a strange story. I am about 1/2 of the way through. It is sad but I am curious to see what happens next.

message 73: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie My Internet connection has been down for two days. Horrible. In the interim I have finished both
John Adams
My review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
and A Soldier's Diary
My review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

I haven't enjoyed a book as much as "John Adams" in ages! It is fabulous. Everybody should read this book. "A Soldier's Diary" got four stars, so that was good too.

Will begin: City of Women

message 74: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments I'm looking forward to what you think of City of Women, Chrissie. I have that book to read too.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I have just finished Splintered by A.G. Howard which I was reading for the toppler. I gave it 4 stars because I had a couple of issues with it but it was a fun read nonetheless and I enjoyed it a lot.

I am just starting Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse, #1) by Charlaine Harris which I am reading for both the toppler and as my D read in the alphabet challenge.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I have finished Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse, #1) by Charlaine Harris which I read for both the Toppler and the Alphabet challenge. I liked it a lot and gave it a 4 star rating.

Tomorrow I will be starting Perfume The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Süskind which I am also reading for the Toppler. I am really looking forward to reading this as have heard so many good things about it.

message 81: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Judy, that is a good book!

message 82: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Judy I liked the parts on Sweden too!

message 83: by Roz (last edited Feb 16, 2013 06:22AM) (new)

Roz | 4528 comments I'm reading Clara and Mr. Tiffany by Susan Vreeland . I never knew about the role of women in the work on his windows and other glass works. My grandfather apparenly had a Tiffany lamp (before I was born, so many many years ago) but it was inadvertently thrown out by someone who didn't know its value. A real shame!

Being married to "artistic people" is no dream! Really, HE is something else, but the book is good.

message 85: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments Oh dear, looks like I have another book for my TBR list.

message 86: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Earlier on I finished Perfume The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Süskind which was my final toppler book. I really enjoyed it and gave it 5 stars.

Later I will be starting The Small Hand by Susan Hill which is the only one of Susan Hill's ghost stories that I have yet to read. It sounds good so hopefully I will enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed the others.

message 87: by Ann (new)

Ann (disciple45) I'm reading my Fruitcake selection, Burning Bright by Tracy Chevalier and enjoying it after the Toppler. I also just added Clara and Mr. Tiffany by Susan Vreeland to my TBR list!

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I'm reading The Essential Calvin and Hobbes I needed something that takes no brain power

message 90: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Judy, I have read other books on the topic but although there has been some debate concerning impartiality and statistics, I want to read it myself. Anna Fields is an excellent narrator. In its own way, what happened to her is shocking too.

message 91: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments Starting Deep Fathom by James Rollins and Below Stairs The Classic Kitchen Maid's Memoir That Inspired "Upstairs, Downstairs" and "Downton Abbey" by Margaret Powell

message 92: by [deleted user] (new)

I have 3 on the go at the mo. I'm still reading The Wives of Henry VIII - he's just married Anne of Cleves.
In the car I have Bel Cantowhis is proving excellent so far.
And I'm just starting my RL book club choice this month, the not insignificantly sized Revelation by CJ Sansom.

message 93: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie I finished The Endless Steppe: Growing Up in Siberia.
An excellent book for young adults! It is an autobiographical account of the author's childhood in Siberia during WW2!
My review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Will start another book about the Jewish experience. Tightrope: Six Centuries of a Jewish Dynasty is about the Backenroth family. This too is not fiction, but a real family, followed from the Middle Ages to the present.

I've read two in this series and have enjoyed them.

With other books occupying my time, I forgot to continue this one.

Need to get back to it; I am way behind!

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments I am beginning The Aviator's Wife The Aviator's Wife by Melanie Benjamin for another book group and Lightning Bug Lightning Bug by Donald Harington .

message 97: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Connie, I am skeptical about the Aviator's Wife..... Please let me know what you think.

Everybody should read or listen to Anna Fields' narration ofThe Rape of Nanking.
My review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

For pure fun I will now start This Side of Brightness. So far I have loved everything by Colum McCann. Can this guy disappoint? I don't think so.
