Sara ♥ (saranicole) I've seen these three:

1971 Miniseries
1995 Version
2007 Version

They all have their good points.

The 1971 sticks closest to the book (since it's much longer, it makes sense). The budget on this one didn't seem like it was terribly high... The clothes weren't as pretty... I loved Anne's voice, but she was pretty... I don't know... dull, overall (acting-wise). I liked it, though. (I got it from Netflix, so it was worth it.)

The 1995 version... Anne. The girl who played her has deep frown lines and really big expressive eyes. She wasn't as pretty as 2007 Anne, but I liked her a lot. Captain Wentworth was really good in this one, also. ... This one was probably the best one. True (as much as time allowed) to the story, and to the feeling of the book.

The 2007 version has the prettiest Anne and the hottest Captain Wentworth... ;) It was good. They took more liberties with the plot. (Not as many as the new 2008 version of Sense & Sensibility. Speaking of which, the guy who plays Edward Ferrars... WOW.) ANYWAY, The ending was more dramatized... It was overall more "Hollywood" than the previous versions.

In order of best to not-best, I'd say 1995, 2007, 1971. Others might disagree...

JG (Introverted Reader) I just put Fool on hold at the library. I'm 9th on the list and there are only two copies in my entire library system, so I don't know if I'll get it anytime soon. We'll see.

I've read the other two, so I'll be interested to see what everyone says about them.

Jill (jillybeans) HELP! Our glorious moderator Lori, I just back on after a week and I am perusing pages and pages of posts trying to find the one with April picks.

Would you please endulge me again and repost?

Thanks!

Jill

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) They are also on the group homepage, in the "Upcoming" section.

message 255: by Jill (new)

Jill (jillybeans) I'm really sorry, but I'm new here. I looked in the tnbbc that I saw and see talk about Cafe Press. I can't find Upcoming anywhere..... maybe it's too complicated to come in such a large club.....

Allison (inconceivably) its the main homepage for the group we're talking about Jill, not another thread.

Allison (inconceivably) you should see them here:

Jill, they are
Shadow of the Wind, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and Fool.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Oddly enough, I just stumbled across "The Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy" online here: Hitchhiker's Guide Online book.

It's not the best format, just one page of scrolling, but maybe it will save some people some money if they read it online rather than buying it. (Not that I think it shouldn't be bought - the entire series is fantastic!)

Woah, Becky, is that the entire book? It almost looks to short to be real. Thats great! Thanks for linking it for everyone! Perhaps you want to create a separate post for this so people have instant access to it...../???

message 261: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Will do, Lori. I'll put it under "Wanna discuss this book" for now. And then I guess it can be moved once April officially starts. :)

And yeah, it does appear to be the whole book. I didn't read the entire thing, but I scrolled through and the ending is how I remember it. None of them are really long on their own. My copy is only 144 pages.

Jill (jillybeans) Thanks everyone. I've read HGTTG and am in for SOTW. Love hispanic authors. Jill

message 263: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jennyil) I found Fool on the 7 day check out shelf at my library so I will be able to read it with the group

I have read Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy before -- it is also fun to listen to and there is a BBC dramatized version around that I think is better than the movie. My favorite Douglas Adams books are his mysteries.

message 264: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) Thanks, Sara! I'll have to check into those. I noticed that Netflix had one available for instant play, but I didn't look to see which version it was. I'm almost done with the book, then will watch the movie :)

Probably the 1971 version... They had a bunch of the old miniseries on there for instant play.

Carol (caroldias) Thank you Becky! You saved the day with your link lol

That is awesome! Maybe now I have a reason to read the book. I have zero time to go to the library and will only get reading done while I am here at work. You save me! :-)

Lauren (lmorris) | 91 comments I'm so excited for htis months reads. Hitchhiker has been on my shelf for a while-I found the whole series in one book on sale and picked it up on my sisters recommend and hadn't started it. This will be just the right push.

message 268: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Oh I'm so glad that you guys will be participating because of my rampant StumbleUpon addiction! The book is fantastic, I hope everyone loves it! :)
