message 64: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments I originally made a goal of 100 books, but after my hubby pointed out how much time I spend reading (not to mention the fact I read a little over 160 books last year without trying) I increased it to 200. Just as well really, because I'm already almost half done... I'm on my 77th book for this year, I believe. Many are children's books so short, but not all are. In fact, one of the books I've read so far this year was "War And Peace" (which took me 11 days to read) so I'm more than happy with my progress. At this rate I'll be completing my goal for this year by August at the latest though... Maybe I should have gone with 300? LOL!

message 65: by Simone (new)

Simone | 67 comments Hello all :) My goal is 250 and I'm usually right on track or a book ahead. I've decided about 20 of these will be novellas just in case I fall behind due to life or my almost 3 yr old daughter (staying at home with her is wonderful, but having reading time isn't always easy). I think it's fair to include novellas when some of the books I read are 500+ pages. It all evens out in the end I believe :)

message 66: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments I think, since it's a personal goal setting challenge, it's up to you what types and lengths of books get included. I include short stories, since - with a lot of the books I read being children's books - I read a lot of them, but some people don't. I've even heard some people say they're only including certain formats of books, which goes to show that it's a personal preference thing.

Geez that's a big goal too! I definitely count novellas, like you said, it evens out ;)

message 69: by Donna (new)

Donna (donanicole) | 897 comments I have not and do not count the boooks I read. I guess I am afraid I will feel pressure to finish books I start that I don't want to finish. But at the rate I am reading it might be fun to count the ones I do actually finish reading.

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 12932 comments Mod
I include short novellas and ebooks in my books. Also children's books! But they aren't all short, some of them get quite long! The Diviners and Illuminate are over 500 pages! So it evens out, I'm sure!

Karen’s Library | 11320 comments Mod
I include short novellas and even a few short stories. But like said above, I'm currently reading a 1200 page novel, so it definitely evens out. :)

message 73: by Joanna Marie (new)

Joanna Marie (joannacapats) My goal is to read only around 20 books this year hehe too busy with work but I know I can hit it! :)

message 74: by Marylene (new)

Marylene | 74 comments I only put 13 books for 2013 as I usually work so many hours and have a daughter that plays too many sports, but now that she's driving, I seem to be finding more time to read. I'm on books 6 & 7 already this year. Who knows how busy the year will get though, so I will keep it this way.

message 75: by DeAnna (new)

DeAnna (dee84812) | 671 comments I count novellas, and MG books, but I obviously don't count the books I read to my 4 and 6 year old daughters.

message 76: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments David,

Yeah, it is a lot. But nobody who knows me is surprised... I've been a huge lover of the written word in general since I learned to read and write when I was three.

Jenny,
True, not all children's books are short. A large number are though, especially those aimed at children seven and under.

message 77: by Jenny, Always smiling! :-D (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 12932 comments Mod
Yeah, I don't count any of those...they are mainly MG books. Atleast 200 pages! They are quicker to read, obviously!

message 78: by Denise (new)

Denise (eendenise) I've read 26 books according to goodreads this year, but that is with the left out chapters and stuff I've read this year. Anyway my goal is at 50 I think. (Can't see it in the damn app.) but I haven't been reading this month and in April and May I won't have much time either. Father that I'm done with school - but I'm gonna work a lot so yeah I'm not sure if I'm gonna make 50 books, I hope I do though.

Definitely! with the internet crashing at home and me counting on library... I'm pretty much on a roll with reading since I have nothing to do on the computer :p

Ideas? anyone? ._. (Don't say writing... I already contemplated that... did it... and failed. Miserably to boredom)

What book is that, 1200 page novel, i could never do that, after like 500 or so pages, i just go crazy with wanting to know what happens in the ending. That's waaaaay too much for me.

message 91: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments I've now read 89 of my 200 books!

Just as well I upped it to 200 after my hubby told me 100 would be too easy for me, because otherwise I'd be done soon. As it is I might be done with my 200 by September (I will if I carry on like this anyway).

message 92: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (Bookwyrming Thoughts) (hannahsophialin) Wow! O_o

Sophia (Bookwyrming Thoughts) (hannahsophialin) Lol, I might move away fast... since I've been reading on steroids lately (not literally). >:3 I guess it's a handy advantage of no internet.
The terrible disadvantage is, I have to try and sneak my computer to the library just to get an internet connection because I forgot to authorize ADE T_T. Of course... there's that lovely risk of getting a major lecture

Embarrassing/doofus moments always seem to catch up to me in the end... O_o

message 96: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments Sophia,
Well done! :)

David,
Yeah. At this rate I'll be reading 300 rather than 200 this year, LOL! Hey, at least that means I should put a nice dent on my to-read shelf! ;)

message 97: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (Bookwyrming Thoughts) (hannahsophialin) A really big one ;)

I never really get the chance to clear my TBR pile (and it grows by the day) unless it's part of a challenge, XD. I tend to read it only if it's a goal. Not that anyone can blame me for it.
