DeAnna (dee84812) | 671 comments Are any of you doing the Goodreads Reading Challenge? How are you doing so far?

My goal is 85 books this year. I currently am 5 books ahead of schedule (I've finished 11), but I seem to be in another slump and not reading too much lately. If that keeps up, I'm going to fall behind real quick!

Karen’s Library | 11320 comments Mod
I decided to up my goal to 110. I read 102 last year. ;-)

So far I'm at 14 books or 6 ahead. I have a couple of large books I want to read this year so being ahead will help when I get into the those books. :-)

I also notice I don't waste as much time on junk tv... If I'm flipping listlessly through channels, I remind myself that I could be reading. So I turn the tv off and pick up my nook!

DeAnna (dee84812) | 671 comments That's what I usually do. I barely watch TV anymore. But the last few days, I find myself watching TV or playing on the computer instead of reading. I gotta kick my butt back into gear!

message 4: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (Bookwyrming Thoughts) (hannahsophialin) I'm deciding to read 100 books this year. I did 15 last year because I just joined Goodreads in September, lol.
I'm at 9 books, 1 ahead, with the majority that's been read in English class, lol.
I'm usually doing something on the computer and reading... on the computer at the same time. (I has an eReader. :3)
I'm stuck watching TV only when my mom uses the computer... -_-
Can't exactly read in the dark. >_<

Wow, awesome goals everyone!! I'm going for 75 but I'm at 13 already so 8 ahead schedule so I might have to raise the bar! But it's not helping my Alphabet Title Challenge, my last three reads have all started with P lol!

message 7: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (Bookwyrming Thoughts) (hannahsophialin) I'm only participating in 2 challenges, lol. The 2013 TBR Pile Challenge and Goodreads. :3 (Not doing too much... or too little... or jumping across the river when it's wide :p)

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

I set a goal of 200 books, I did 175 last year and had no problem so hopefully this year will be the Same. I'm already 4% ahead of schedule. :)

message 11: by Rebecka (new)

Rebecka I made a goal of 180 this year. I had the same goal last year and missed it by 5, but I wasn't counting re reads and this year I am. I'm 3 books ahead right now but I'm planning on going back to school in September so ill need to get as far ahead as possible before then :)

lol I spent $20 on The Mortal Instruments, so I have to read them, but they all start with C! And I've already read 2 C's! lol

message 14: by DeAnna (new)

DeAnna (dee84812) | 671 comments I definitely count rereads. It doesn't matter if you've read them before because you're still reading a book. Obviously if your challenge is 180 NEW books, then you wouldn't count them.

I actually have another challenge on my blog, which is 75 books over 100 pages. So I'm going for 75 books over 100 pages, 85 total. I'm currently at 10 over 100, 11 total.

Now, I should probably get off here and go read! But I'm probably going to go check on my farm... lol

message 16: by DeAnna (new)

DeAnna (dee84812) | 671 comments Yeah, you didn't help either! Star and Sun both start with S! ;) Then again, you have The in the title, so I guess I could count one as T. ;)

message 17: by Alison (new)

Alison (docgussack) | 7 comments I was way too optimistic last year so dropped my challenge to 75 this year but I am starting off slow. Why must reality get in the way of my reading??!
Finally getting back to Star and Sun Dwellers...yay!

message 18: by Kami (new)

Kami (kamijo101) | 64 comments I put my goal at 125 and im only 2% ahead of schedule. But i have a list of all the books to read this year. Plus i'm doing the A-Z Challenge and i have a list for those to read also. I just cant find any good ones for J,K,U, and Y

message 25: by Donna (new)

Donna (donanicole) | 897 comments HI Sophia, just to let you know, you CAN read in the dark if you have a Kindle Paperwhite. I got mine when it first came out last fall and it's all I use for reading....well, that and my Kindle Fire. The Kindle PW does have a lighted screen but not the kind a computer or Fire has that burns your eyes. There are tons of free books and very inexpensive ones to read on Amazon. I'm sure this is so on the other reader sites too. The Kindle PW itself is only about $120 if you have wifi already. Just saying. I read in the dark quite a lot.

Demi (lolsfm) | 2 comments I am a bit embarrassed to say my target is 35 books when everyones else is double or triple that! I wish i had more time to read :( but i am ahead of target ;D

message 27: by Anthony (new)

Anthony | 5 comments My challenge this year is 400 books. Last year it was 365 and I got it done with ease. But before you go and think I am a super reader, most of the books are picture books because I am a kid. Also, I am homeschooled, so I have more time to read. Right now I am right on track.

message 28: by Donna (new)

Donna (donanicole) | 897 comments I guess I will say that I don't have a target number, just read and enjoy. If I put a target number on myself I might just feel stressed instead of enjoying what I am reading.

I read on my computer in the dark most of the time, although for a glasses person like me, it's a bit difficult. Luckily the writing is big enough :)
I don't have a carry around eReader tablet though, lol.

Ruby Black (ruby_black) Uhmm...I put 365 books...don't know what in Hitchcock's name made me do that... I am so so behind (20 books behind) hehehe.

Oh yea, I have a little beef about the GR challenge master accountant...I sometimes call him HAL 9000. Seriously, what is up with the generic monotone statements.....*sitting cross-legged & eyes closed* finding my zen place now...peace, serenity, and all that good stuff...

(believe I brought up Star Wars themed statements to David a few months back)

If you don't like the dry statements from HAL 9000, what do ya guys prefer it say when your behind or ahead?

message 33: by Lola (new)

Lola (lolasreviews) | 563 comments I challenged myself to read 125 books this year. last year I challenged myself to read 150 books and I only missed that because of some Goodreads issues, like re-reads not counting. I have already read 10 books this year and seriously hate it when that challenge update says I am behind, lol.

message 34: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (hobbitual_reader) I challenged myself to read 50 books this year, as I've read 9 this month, I'm well on my way to surpassing 50 this year :)

message 35: by DeAnna (new)

DeAnna (dee84812) | 671 comments Rebecca, I did a 50 book challenge the last 2 years. In 2011, I only read 42 books! (88 in 2010. Can I blame it on the fact that I had a baby in 2011?) So I went for 50 again 2012 and hit 71! I'm hoping to be able to make my 85 book goal!

I think I belong to too many groups. I swear I have answered this thread already, and more than once, and then I realized I probably did in other groups! I feel sometimes like I've lost my mind with all the similar threads...

Anyhoo, my goal is 200 books this year, with 100 being new releases. Last year my goal was 120 and I did 150, so I'm sure I can do this. I'm at 64 so far, although I won't be able to keep this pace up forever!
