The poll technically isn't closed yet but I'm calling it since 'make bread from scratch' is the only one that has more than one vote.

The challenge for February is to make bread from scratch. To level the playing field I'm going to say no using bread machines.

I admit, this challenge is a bit intimidating for me so I found a You Tube video that I'll be using. The woman gives clear instructions so I have high hopes that it will work.

Here's a link to the video, I'll also post it in the How to section.

You can post here with your recipes, trials and tribulations, or quesions if you have any

Brianna This is a great video! Thanks! I have so many ideas already for what I want to try but I think I'll start with a basic loaf first haha

Judith Post | 116 comments My Jewish friend makes Challah every week and swears it's easy, but then I've never had a bad meal at her house. Anyway, think I'll give it a try. Maybe even learn how to braid bread:)

Wall-to-wall books - wendy Is any kind of bread allowed? Or does it have to be a yeast kind?

Like I am thinking cornbread?
I have a good recipe i wanna try.

It's hard to believe that we're almost half way through the month already!! Has anyone attempted the bread from scratch challenge? I'll admit, I haven't tackled it yet.

Judith Post | 116 comments I haven't yet. February's going to be over before I get in gear. It feels like it's flown past, but I just got a new clay baker--like a big, clay roaster--from QVC, and it came with a recipe for rosemary olive bread that looks delicious! Want to try it. Made roast chicken in it last night--and it was awesome! You soak the clay before you put it in the oven, so the chicken stays super moist.

Amy Lutchen (amyjoylutchen) *cowers in corner* I didn't do this yet! I want to, it's just that, well, I have not been cooking much. I've had a bigger project: dealing with cracks in our basement and WATER LEAKING IN!! AHHHH!! But darn it, that bread is going to BE MADE! I vow to make bread even if my feet are standing in 3 inches of water...

I definitely dropped the ball on this! February just flew right by me. Would anyone be interested in extending the challenge to the end of March!

message 15: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 116 comments I would! I bought the yeast, and that's as far as I got.

Amanda | 15 comments I'll second that, I had all intentions of trying to make cinnamon raisin bread from scratch and just flat out forget.
