Life of Pi Life of Pi question

Did anyone else feel Pi's discovery and adoption of Islam into his lifestyle to be more briefly explained than that of his discovery of Christianity?

I feel like a lot of time was spent on his discovery of Christ (which is understandable because Christianity is drastically different from Hinduism), but not so much was spent on Pi's discovery of Islam.

It talks about how he meets the man in the Muslim area of Pondicherry, but it doesn't say much about what it is about the religion that he is drawn to, what intrigues or fascinates him about it (in contrast to his interest in Hinduism and Christianity).

He does say, “I challenge anyone to understand Islam, its spirit, and not to love it. It is a beautiful religion of brotherhood and devotion.” However, I wish he had said something about the brotherhood, about the Qur'an and why he loves its verses enough to memorize them.

I just felt it was lacking... and I don't know if the author did that intentionally (because he wanted to move on and get to Part 2 on the Pacific Ocean), or if he thought that what he wrote was sufficient.

Thoughts, anyone?

i read it over a year back so i dont remember exactly but now after reading ur comment i feel the same. Maybe the writer didnt felt the need to stretch this anymore coz as far as i remember the plot was shifting towards the ship wreck n that was more important.

maybe i need a reread :)
