7703janeth you need to read this book it really sad and interesting

Debra I used this book as part of a presentation for a grad class. It is truly moving. You may wish to add the book Petey. It is fiction and a middle school read, but has had an impact on readers as well.

Sylvia this book was so sad. i wish i was there to i could of taken the child away from her. some females shouldn't have children at all. it made me feel sad and so mad at the same time. when i was reading it and i got to the part where she stabed and didn't even take him to the hospital i was like what is wrong with this b***H and my husband would tell me to chill it was just a book. Any who i'm glad the child was able to get out before he ended up dead.

S.L. Wallace But it's not JUST a book. You were right to get so upset, Sylvia. David's case was the third worst case of child abuse in California history (if I'm remembering the state correctly). It IS based on a true story. His case was one of the few that changed legislation. At the time, his teachers were putting their careers on the line standing up for him like they did.

Anita It is agood book I read it and a few more from this author

Monica I read this book a while back & it is really good book but very sad. No child should ever have to go through any abuse what so ever!

He has written other good books too!

I don't recall any of his teachers speaking up until middle school he was abused way longer than that

Karen I thought this book shows how we want so badly to believe in our parents even when they are hurting us. This boy would have accepted love from his mother up to the very end but she never gave one ounce. It also shows the power of the human spirit and how you can move past a horrifying childhood and make it in the world once you find out that "it's not your fault". He went on to love an be loved. I greatly admire this man. There are two more books he wrote to finish his story.

Shina I've read all the books in this series. Dave Peltzer is an amazing man to overcome these horrible events in his life. I also had the chance to meet him in person and have a signed copy of the book!!

Courtney Boucher The most inspiring thing for me was how Dave Peltzer took his story to inspire and educate others. As horrific as his childhood was, he has used his experiences to help others! Most people couldn't even imagine the abuse that he endured and through his telling his story he is not only educating he is also letting other children/adolescents who experience forms of abuse know that they are not alone and that something can be done, although not as an easy journey. I read this book several years ago when I started my schooling for Social Work and it only inspired me to work harder to fight the injustices of the world

Chelsea When I first read this book, I was in high school, and I was seeing hard times myself. It was inspiring, and I couldn't put it down. It gave me the courage and strength i needed to pull myself out of what I was in, and am now doing better for myself. A Child Called It is one of the best books I have ever read.

claudia I cried multiple times while reading this book. Dave Peltzer's story is so inspiring and anyone who plans on becoming a psychologist in the future has to read this.

Jessica I read this book when I was a teenager and I was flabbergasted with how cruel a person could be to their own child. I do not know the details to this or how true it is, but I recently read that his biological brothers have said that Pelzer actually embellished the abuse that he went through in this book and that it is not all true. I wish I could find out what is true and what is not.

Kelley King I have read this book many times it broke my heart and inspired me. This story makes you realize that you are truly blessed and lucky. I had a rough childhood but im thankful for what i did have now that i have read this heartbreaking story.
