It was like reading The Book of Genesis only more boring.

Despite the title of my topic, I did like the book, but the whole family tree in the beginning was like reading the Bible. There just has to be a better more condensed way to get all of this information into less pages. It's kind of like having a sandwich with premium turkey, but have to pick off all of the gross sandwich toppings. Some books need all of the words (very few), but this one, in my opinion, did not.

I'll admit that I didn't enjoy reading about the Vanger family (who's who) and found myself confused by the names and relationships. I sometimes went back to try to figure out who they were talking about. Seeing the film helped, but maybe it could have been simplified.

I thought the genealogy to be a vital part of the story. It's quite simple to just skip over it if you don't like it--same with the bible.

EDIT: I wanted to clarify. When I read a book with extensive connections about family, etc., it causes me to pause and wonder why it was so important to include this information. It MUST be vital to the story. So, I read it all. I can concede it is not the most thrilling stuff to read, though.

I referred back to the family tree several times. Like Jeni said, if the author goes through the trouble of including it in the narrative, it must be important.

If you like genealogical tales, I recommend "In the Blood:A Genealogical mystery which I am 2/3rd of the way finished.Very interesting mystery that covers 200 years.

I ACTUALLY LISTENED TO THE BOOK. I ENJOYED IT VERY MUCH. THE MOVIE SUCKED. IF I HADN'T BEEN THERE TO EXPLAIN IT TO MY HUSBAND, HE WOULDN'T HAVE KNOWN WHAT WAS GOING ON.

k e While I agree that without reading the book first a little guidance is needed in the first 5 minutes of the film. But "suck" seems a little harsh, as ...more
