Did thief who stole their things on the beach towards end of book survive?
Man took his clothes and shoes. What If he left before noticing man returning his clothes?
How would you deal with situation? Would you punish thief on that way?
I would have mercy for thief.I would kick his ass a little but then let him go.

I felt sorry for thief even he was thief becuase he was trying to survive. There is much worse things you can do then steal somebody's food and blankets.

Like what those people had in their basement. *hint hint*

Tyler In their world stealing food is the worst thing you can do to someone other than murder someone. Food is incredibly scarce as is anything that can help you survive. People have nothing and anything that can possibly help you survive would be crucial. I think the main character is pretty noble in how he handles it.

Michael I think we don't know how we'd act in such a situation in general. We would all like to think we would be reasonable, but for all we know we could end up like the people with a basement full of dubious supplies...

I reckon he died. The weather was pretty miserable and he had no food and from my understanding(im probably wrong) but running into people was rather a scare thing too?

Matt Hilton I think that we have no idea about what it would be like to live in that situation. I've never been close to starving, I doubt many here on Goodreads have. I would imagine if you are starving, stealing is not the worst think you can think of. The thief's main problem is that he got caught.

Our concepts of right and wrong in our society today would quickly change if we lived in world from the book.

Mike Dimitroff Both good questions. Most people I know would have died in a similar situation, but that thief had survived for many years in that hell of a place, so I wouldn't write him off just yet.

As to what I would have done... That's a complex issue. My decision would have been driven not by how I feel about the thief, or whether I want to punish him, but what example I want to set for the child. I would most likely have done the same thing as in the book.
