I enjoyed the Rebus books very much (I'm not quite finished yet) and I have The Complaints to read. Looking forward to it.

Standing in Another Man's Grave by Ian Rankin."As a true blue Ian Rankin fan, read them all and in order, I was thrilled to have Rebus back and that Malcolm Fox came in and in a less than complimentary form was excellent. Perhaps his character will be better formed in the next books next to Rebus and the gang....on his own he was simply boring despite the positive twist of complaints IMHO.
I like the Rebus books, but nearly 20 of them is a step too far. He should turn his hand to chick lit, historical, anything, but crime, in my view.

I am so glad Rebus is back! His attitude and slight sarcasm are wonderful. The book also shows how the basics of solving crime has been eroded by relying so much on new methods. Hope Mr. Rankin keeps Rebus with us.

"Standing.." my favorite by far, but really a Rebus as opposed to a Fox story, in my humble opinion. Here's hoping John passes his physical.

Sorry, but I have to put a comment in these unused topics as far as I can figure out to remove them from my unread topics listing on my app. Have managed to delete them on the website but they are still unread from the app point of view. Sorry for being such a pain but no other help forthcoming in terms of getting rid of them. Katherine

I read all the Rebus books and the first two Fox books, but they just fell short for me. I am glad to hear that the Malcolm Fox books are getting better. I think I will pick up Standing in Another Man's Grave and see how it goes.

Because he's a talented author, and it would be good to see him try his hand at another genre.
How many of us would take a break from a successful career and give something new a shot? Plus, perhaps he has and no one wants to publish. I like John Rebus, he's a friend, and I want to continue my relationship.

Rankin wrote 3 stand alone mysteries in the 1990s which are different from his Rebus series. They were originally published under another name. I thought the first one was the best.

i'm glad to have Rebus back and think there's still life yet in the old dog. Malcolm Fox, IMO, is a prissy old curmudgeon and i don't much care for him as a character, although the stories around him were okay. going up against Rebus, i obviously favor Rebus and just find fox annoying.

Truth be told Malcolm Fox was a series going nowhere until Rebus returned; thank goodness Mr Rankin caved and brought him back.

The Young Montalbano has worked for Andrea Camilleri, and Scudder has had novels inserted in missing years. I like Rankin's longstanding position that his detective would age but as has been seen he is much loved and brings the best out of his creator.
Rebus - The Missing Years?
A not so old but not pubescent Rebus?
If he writes it I'd read them all.
I'm with Sharon in this and feel I need to revisit all 19 books in chronological order in the new year
