BattyKat (prosserkat) A fedora. Where exactly are you wearing said HAT?

Terry ~ Huntress of Erudition Kat wrote: "Terry wrote: "But, I've always wondered, does that count as reading when you listen to an audiobook? "

It had better count! I don't see why it wouldn't count, as you are still ingesting the story."

That's true- and you are listening the the actual words that were written - not someone's adaptation of it, like a movie.

Terry ~ Huntress of Erudition I know Kindles are very popular and I have the app on my phone, but to me there is nothing like the smell of a new book. Used books have their charm, you can kind of sense the people who have read the book before you, especially if a bookmark of sorts is left in between the pages. Old books smell kind of sweet, like worn dollar bills, from so many handlers. My favorite thing right now is holding my big, fat, brand new paperback version of "A Clash of Kings" (2 nd book of Game of Thrones) and smelling the new pages. I don't even care that it is raining and going to be a long bus ride home tonight....

I'm completely with you on that score, girl! Like I need MORE eyestrain from even MORE hours spent looking at at screen! And for enjoyment? I don't think so, I'll pass on that, thank you!

Hahaha! I just read what I wrote yesterday and it sounds like I was sniffing the book all the way home instead of reading it!

NEVER underestimate sensual pleasures regardless from where they may come. hahaha!
Speaking of, here is one of my favorite sounds in the whole world:
New hardcover book I gingerly open the cover just so far then... there's just this small "crick" sound of the book giving itself up for the first time. I LOVE THAT SOUND!
Interpret as you see fit! lol!

Terry ~ Huntress of Erudition Good one!

I finished reading The Book Thief a few days ago. I look forward to hearing what you think. My review is available, if you are interested, once you finish it. A lot of us read several books at a time, too.

Terry ~ Huntress of Erudition Hi Laurel, I wanted to read your review of the book thief, but saw there was 3000 reviews when I looked up the book. Do you have it in your profile or some other file? Just wondering if there is an easier way to locate a specific review.

That's nice that you want to read it. If you go to Laurel's Corner, here on
All Sorts, you will find it on p 3, towards the bottom of the page. The little icon for the book is there, too. Let me know if you found it ok. It is in other places too, but that is likely the easiest to find.

This book is not for everyone. You might want to do a little research before you decide to read it.

message 233: by Iain (last edited Jun 21, 2013 11:32PM) (new)

Iain (abdnbip) | 7 comments Just finished Winters Bone as I am a huge fan of the film (one of the 5 best American films of the last 10 years). The book was alright, very few surprises from having seen the film first but I feel that way most times I am introduced to something then view/read it in a new medium.

Terry ~ Huntress of Erudition That was a GREAT movie!! I didn't know it was a book first - I'm putting that one at the top of my To Read list.

message 235: by Iain (new)

Iain (abdnbip) | 7 comments You should do, looking back on my post I realized I came off as dismissive of it which was not my intention at all as it is a very good novel. Does anyone else do that where they see a film then read the book its based on and find it a little disappointing (if the film was good that is)?

message 236: by Robert (new)

Robert (booklover_83) | 23 comments Working on 90 Miles to Freedom and The Columbus Affair at this point. I rarely read 2 books at once but sometimes I need to have different genres being read at different times. Anyone feel the same?

Terry ~ Huntress of Erudition Burning Bright
by Catherine Brophy (Goodreads Author)
bookshelves: currently-reading

This book is HILARIOUS!! I can hear the people talking in my head as if they are right there - the author has each character spot on! The story is mainly about a family in Ireland. Each chapter is told by a different family member. I had it downloaded for a while and was wading through some other books I felt compelled to read first, but now I am sorry I waited so long to start reading this one.
Great light summer reading!!

message 239: by Annie (new)

Annie (louize48) | 291 comments Sounds like fun, Terry and a nice LIGHT follow up after Atkinson's heavy (weight) BritLit! I plan to look this book up for sure! :)

Terry ~ Huntress of Erudition Annie, Catherine offered a free download of the book on our group site last month. I don't know if it is still valid, but I'll try to find it for you.

message 242: by Doug (new)

Doug (alexchel) Blood Money: Wasted Billions, Lost Lives, and Corporate Greed in Iraq

Very informative book although a bit depressing. It's one thing to be incompetent, unfortunately this group decided to sprinkle a little corruption on top.

Taking longer to finish than I'd like.

Now reading The Kill Room (Lincoln Rhyme, #10) by Jeffery Deaver The Kill Room

message 244: by Liz (new)

Liz | 4 comments I'm currently reading Three Junes by Julia Glass. It's a longer read than I thought it would be when I started, and I'm about smack in the middle of it at this point. It can be a bit of a downer and not really humorous to me, even in the descriptions of humor or jokes that the current main character gives. Actually, that might be because the current main character, Fenno, doesn't really see too much humor even when others try to present it, I guess.

message 245: by Annie (new)

Annie (louize48) | 291 comments Sounds like a not so easy read. Hope it pays off for you!
Longer than Ms. Ursula's story? :P

Cause of Carter's scary temp, ER visit and all the worry? Or other stuff as well?

Well, the scare with Carter did play a part, but mostly I just struggled with concentrating on reading. It's going much better now though! I knocked out roughly 70 pages last night, and I'll be starting Showdown later today, for a buddy read! I love Ted Dekker!!!
