Marie wrote: "Nice to meet you, Bri! Like you, I am also trying to read more classic literature. You should check out the group Classics Without All The Class; our March read will be The Adventures of Sherlock..."Oh thanks that's great! I'll check out the group.
Call me 'Byron'. There may be other names you grow to use as you refer to me and to which I might answer, but for now, this early in our relationship, call me 'Byron'. I've lived in central/northwestern North Carolina my entire life. Someday soon the wife unit and I wish to live someplace sunnier, further south, and closer to water.
Non-exclusive list of Things I Like: Coffee, peanuts, popcorn, baseball, live music, recorded music, long shadows just before dusk, birds at the feeder, Coke Zero, Sam Adams, steak, asparagus.
Some Things I Don't Like: TV, brussel sprouts, starlings, Diet Pepsi, not being independently wealthy.
Cannery Row is one of my favorite books, mostly because of the characters. Despite not being one of the great works of fiction it resonated with me early in my life and helped create my love for literature when I learned how deeply a book could make me feel the neediness of fellow human beings. I knew I was no longer alone.
Beasts of the Southern Wild is my new favorite movie. The Fifth Element is also among my favorites. When it comes to movies, I tend to have lots of new favorites. I will admit to watching just about any Bogart film that catches my eye while scanning the channel guide.
I listen to Blues, Jazz, Classical, Rock, Folk, Alternative...I'm sure the list isn't complete since there are many genres that I enjoy. Count Basie always lifts my mood. Over the Rhine, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Lyss Emerson, are high on my list.
I was a NaNoWriMo 2011 winner and hope to take on that challenge again in 2013.
I look forward to being in a group and becoming a less selfish reader. I read a lot and don't share how it affects me. That must change, so be prepared to suffer through my so-called insights.
Hi Byron, you sound like a person I want to get to know. You're attitude is surprisingly fresh. Welcme

Hello, its nice to meet you. I am new to this group and see people joining each day. It seems as if we have things in common and things like brussel sprouts (I love them with lemon pepper and paramsham cheese roasted) that we do not. Although I wouldn't think brussle sprouts would interfere with a friendship. Top of the morning to ya.

Welcome Byron, I am a fellow NaNoWriMo-er too. I grew up in South Carolina and spent a lot of time in NC - Charlotte, Hendersonville, the highland games in Waxhaw and Grandfather Mountain :)

Hi Folks!Name's Henri, read quite a bit... currently onto book number 74/75 of the year being Dale Brown's Night of the Hawk and also Jonathan Steinberg's Bismarck (which is pretty dry and heavy - lots of letters from the 1800s etc).
Usually review each book after reading and happy to chat about 'em

Hello there everyone! My name is Cherrelle, I'm from the UK and I study Spanish and Portuguese at the university in my home town.
I joined Goodreads back in July 2012 (apparently) but I have only just really got my teeth into the site this week. Basically, I really want to get back into reading (if I'm going to be procrastinating, what better way to do it than reading a book, right?) and I think joining a group here and sharing my reading experiences with others will really help me there.
I look forward to getting to know everyone :)
