Hi, Steph! I'm new here, too. I'm Liz, and I live in Colorado. I like seeing live music, jogging, and traveling, too.
I hopefully start a new job on Monday and will be traveling with my work--that means plane rides with time for reading!

I'm Jayansh, 23 years old male. Interested in books, music(Tool fan for life!),movies, and everything in between. Looking to spend some good time here.

Hi Iain,
OMG I want to make this cake!
I hope you can open this -

I don't have a favorite book. Any book that keeps my attention long enough to be finished is my favorite until I move to the next one. Favorite movie is "Treasure of the Sierra Madre". Favorite song is "waiting room" by Fugazi.
Look forward to participating in the group.

I've been looking for a good book club for a while and everyone seems so friendly here !
Can't wait to get started :)

I love to read whenever I can.
I've just joined this group today and from what I've read it seems like a friendly group.
Looking forward to seeing what everyone is reading.
I'm currently reading
My James: The Heartrending Story of James Bulger by His Father. by Ralph Bulger, Rosie Dunn
This is an emotional read. Tissues required :(

I guess I have fairly broad taste in books, anything from contemporary and magical realism to crime and historical ficton. Like most of us, I suspect, I get into an author or genre and try and consume as much as possible for a while before looking for something new. That is why I have joined the group really... to find something new. So I am hoping for lots of great recommentations from all you interesting and well-read people :)
I usually have a couple of books on the go at once. In most cases something easy and fast paced (for the busstop) and something a bit more cerebral - like now, I reading

Hi all, thanks for the welcome everyone.
Terry and Riya - Hi, if you want a fast paced, written for cinema, easy read Inferno will fit the bill. As people elsewhere on GR have said it follows the Dan Brown 'formula' pretty closely. But I guess we know what were getting by now and I think that there is always going to be a place for this kind of book. I have quite enjoyed it and would say it is a better book than

I was born, raised and live in Providence, RI after 22 years of living outside the city.
As for likes, I'm a fairly open-minded person and will give anything a chance but I don't like bigotry in any form, although sometimes as a fiction author you have to write it to make a point.
I grew up reading Cold War novels by Frederick Forsyth, Robert Ludlum, John LeCarré and Tom Clancy and I tried to model my novel that way. I even describe my book as the modern day version of "Dogs of War."
For years i worked as part of the editorial staff at a major daily newspaper, starting out in news, enduring a brief stint in features and finally getting laid off after several years writing my passion, sports.
And finally, I'm also a grad student who knows a great deal about academic writing and I'll be writing my thesis for next May, 2014.

Hi Thom, welcome to the group, what is the thesis on?

Yea, she used to mark me town for writing "Tom" instead of Thomas, then I switched to "Thom," and told her I was spelling it correctly since there's an "h" in Thomas. Ever since then I've been Thom. Glad I could make you laugh!

The thesis is on my master's topic, labor relations/human resources, very dry stuff compared to the fiction I write.

Sounds interesting, labor relations doesn't have to be dry. You may already be familiar with his work, but if not check out anything by Alessandro Portelli (http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...). A lot is published in English and he writes brilliantly...

I like books that make the world disappear for a while. I read widely across genres and enjoy good books of all kinds.
The first book I ever read so many times it literally fell apart was 101 Dalmatians, by Dodie Smith. (The 2nd printing, with the lovely pen and ink illustrations.)

Tell us a bit about yourself like:
Your name (or what you'd like everyone to call you)"
Almira Faye. Almira or Faye. Whatever you like. :]
Where you're from
Philippines
Your likes/dislikes
I like to read. I dislike...hmm headaches, I guess.
Your favourite books/movies/songs
Book: Gone With the Wind (but my favorite author is Charles Dickens)
Movie: Lord of the Rings; Argo
Song: Viva la vida by Coldplay; Boston by Augustana
And any other interesting facts about yourself! :-)
I don't know if it's interesting, but anyway I am an IT graduate.
Hello everyone! :D

Thanks Riya :]]
And James, Almirante? Did I just gain a new nickname? Anyways it's fine. Thanks!
