Morning Laurel! I'm aiming for the end of July to publish BABY SNATCHERS.
If it's as well received as STEALING POWER I'll be a very happy bunny :)

Lindsay White | 2 comments Hi, I'm Lindsay, and I live in central Illinois. I love reading and hate bad movie versions of good books (ex: Beautiful Creatures). Being a teenage girl, I like Twilight, The Hunger Games, etc. However, The Great Gatsby is one of my all-time favorite books in the world, and I loved the Leonardo DiCaprio movie version. I think it really got younger people interested in a great classic. Right now for music, I'm obsessed with Indie Rock and artists like Florence + The Machine, Lana Del Rey, M83, The XX, Foster the People, and Coldplay.
Also, I saw a post somewhere on the group about how a ferret should be our "mascot". I completely agree, I've had ferrets my whole life and they're adorable, amazing pets!(:

Jon (jon17) | 372 comments Welcome, Lindsay.
Have you checked out the recommendations tab at the top yet?

Terry ~ Huntress of Erudition Welcome Lindsey!
I loved the Great Gatsby movie too. In fact, this is the first time I thought the movie was better than the book. I was never that much of a fan of Leonardo Di Caprio, but I thought he was perfect in that role.

message 860: by Dylan (new)

Dylan Parker | 4 comments Hi, I'm Dylan. I'm 22 and I live in the middle of the UK. I've also loved reading ever since I was a small kid and first had The Hobbit read to me by my father. Since then, I'm been reading constantly (with the ironic exception of a period at university studying English literature!) I'm looking forward to getting new tips from other people on what to read and hope to have some interesting discussions!

Dylan Parker | 4 comments Lindsay wrote: "The Great Gatsby is one of my all-time favorite books in the world."

I forgot to add that one of my absolute favourite books is The Great Gatsby as well. I've not seen the movie yet, since I always think the film is never going to match up to the book, but it looks very interesting.

And good choice of music as well, what did you think of the xx's contribution to the Gatsby soundtrack?

message 862: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (-manderley-) | 4 comments Hello! I'm Ellie from Minnesota USA. This is my first reading group!
I have three children, 2 in university and 1 just starting high school.
I collect and sell vintage items and am a confessed auction junkie.

I love too many books to pick a favorite, so I'll share my most read -- The Secret History by Donna Tartt.
It's just one of those books I pick up when there is nothing else available. It never gets old.

I've purchased the Kindle version of The Night Circus and am eager to get started. Nice to meet you all! :-)

Georgianne | 14 comments @Robbie (from Canada)

I read Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand last summer. While I am not the biggest fan of nonfiction, I found this story very moving. It follows the life of Louis Zamperini, during WWII, as he is stranded at sea then forced to live as a POW.

Also Night by Eli Weisel is a very powerful Holocaust novel.

Terry ~ Huntress of Erudition Welcome Dylan and Ellie! Sorry I spelled your name wrong before, Lindsay.

Jan | 1 comments Hi! I like to read a romance that has a story behind it and depth. Something to keep me entertained on the beach or at the pool.

message 873: by Emily (new)

Emily (emlitt) | 2 comments Hi, all! I'm Emily.

I'm currently in school studying graphic design and advertising. I love to travel, and I just recently returned to the USA after studying abroad in Europe for four months. I'm addicted to Cheese-itz and Diet Coke and have an extremely soft, ushy gushy spot for elephants. Diana Wynne Jones is my favorite author, and Howl's Moving Castle is my favorite of her books (I try to re-read it every year!).

message 874: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Hello, everyone! I'm Nancy and I live in South Carolina. I've been a reader and book lover before I was in kindergarten and I'm in my early 50s now, so I've been reading for a long time. My #1 favorite book is An Unknown Woman by Alice Koller. I read a wide variety in both fiction and non-fiction.

My musical tastes are as eclectic as my reading tastes. Currently my favorite song is "Death Come Near Me" by Draconian.

Fun facts about me: I'm a belly dancer, a beader, a Rennie and I'm a veterinary technology student.

Terry ~ Huntress of Erudition Hi Nancy, my husband and I just visited Charleston, SC and we loved it! I've read a few novels set in Charleston and it is just as enchanting on real life. Like you, I have also loved to read since I was very young(my mother was an elementary school teacher) I put the book you suggested, "The Unknown Woman", on my To Read list - it sounds great. Welcome to the group!

message 876: by Hedvig (new)

Hedvig | 13 comments Good morning everyone!I´m Hedvig and I live in Sweden, just outside Stockholm. I teach Swedish and English to students between 16 and 19 and have just finished this semester and started my summer vacation.

I read all the time, mostly a few novels at a time. I almost only read fiction and I am rather bad at finishing novels I find uninteresting or boring.

I don´t like horror or macabre crime novels. If I read crime novels there should be more puzzles than blood, like in novels by Håkan Nesser.

I love dystopian novels, fantasy, historical novels etc. Right now I am reading The Buddha in the Attic, The Book Thief and And the mountains echoed.

I have three small kids (6, 3, almost 1).
I have written too much as usual...sorry!

Priscilla Keeler (priscillakeeler) | 1 comments Hello,
My name is Priscilla Keeler and I'm the author of ROAM (Resonance of Ancient Myth), a young adult fantasy novel. I am offering free digital copies of ROAM to qualified amateur book reviewers. Please visit the links below to learn more about it. (ROAM= Percy Jackson+Hunger Games....that is if the cat from HG could talk, and there was a gay mermaid.)
If you are interested please email me: priss.phantomblush@hotmail.com
Here are some links to my book:
http://www.phantomblush.com
https://www.facebook.com/ROAMthebook
It is also available on iTunes, Amazon, and Barnes and Noble.com
Personally I really enjoy reading Terry Pratchett's Disc World series. I also enjoy Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Hunger Games, The Warriors (yes, one about the cats). I also love Game of Thrones, the Anita Blake series, and books by LJ Smith (especially the Forbidden Game trilogy cause it reminded of the Labyrinth and and we all know how hot David Bowie is.) I do not like Twilight. I drew a comic with cats expressing my extreme dislike-- www.phantomblush.com
Anywhos...I love to chat about books, cartoons, cats, Ru Paul, and Gordon Ramsay.

Thanks
Priscilla K.
(btw I just wrote a ridiculous amount and Goodreads says I have over 10000 characters left...I shall have to try harder.
