message 755: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (lynessasedai) Hi, my name is Alyssa. I'm 25, a stay at home mom of two little girls, and an online college student. Plus, my husband is military, so I occasionally have to do everything alone. I've become good at juggling things.

I love to read, but don't ask my favorite book. It will always change based on the last great book I read. It's currently Water for Elephants, but I'm sure that will change in about a week.

I'm originally from Wisconsin, but the Army sent my husband to Washington state, so here we are. But we don't know how long we'll stay here (we've been here for 4 years already). I look forward to that adventure.

Liz | 196 comments Welcome Alyssa! I'm from Oregon, but went to school in Tacoma. Are y'all at that base in Lakewood or something? If so, that place has such a beautiful view of Rainier. Oh man I miss that mountain. :)

Chloe (chloef13) Hey Alyssa! I'm like that as well, my favourite book right now is TFIOS but before that it was Insurgent and before that.... Well, you know

We are! I love when there's a clear day and Rainier is visible. I'm not a huge fan of all the rain, but it could always be worse.

I'll take the rain! Been getting soaked down here in south Florida and it has been great--so far the rain has come with cool temps. Was in Seattle just after Christmas--had a beautiful view of Mt Rainier for about three minutes. Then the clouds covered it.

Hi Heather, Welcome! I have always wondered what it would feel like to be adopted and to find your biological family. I'm definitely putting your book on my To Read list.
I also have a cat with attitude, her name is Kity Purry - she is very vocal!
I love Stephen King too. His earlier books are my favorites, though.

message 761: by Heather (new)

Heather McCarthy Thank you and yes I really like his earlier work much better. Need to play catch up and read some more of his new stuff. The last one I read was The Dome. only got half way through Still haven't finished it

It is in his "Different Seasons" book, and was titled "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption". Great book and great movie.

You will LOVE The Book Thief - it is written very differently, but that makes it more interesting!

message 781: by Rhonda (new)

Rhonda Louise (rhondalouise) | 6 comments Hi everyone,
I am hoping to find some lovely book buddies here.
I was born in Tasmania (that's the little island at the bottom of Australia) and for love I abandoned the sunshine and moved to the UK (that's the little island on the other side of the world).
I love writing (I am the author of Wombat Sushi) and reading (because it distracts me when I can't write).
I seem to be addicted to brackets today.
I look forward to meeting y'all.
Hugs,
Rhonda Louise

message 790: by Rhonda (new)

Rhonda Louise (rhondalouise) | 6 comments Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. It's lovely to talk to you. Cheryl, you are my hero.
I've been in the UK for just over 7 years. We celebrated our seventh wedding anniversary yesterday by almost forgetting the date, spending the day apart, having a mild tiff and falling asleep on the couch.
And they say romance is dead ...

message 795: by VickiLee (new)

VickiLee I was trying to think up an original way to introduce myself and failed miserably! My name is Vicki, and I am a Canadian prairie dweller. Much of my life is taken up with teaching high school English(for a few more years)and when time is open, I read and write (poetry for the most part). I am really looking for a group that enjoys discussions, not only about books but ideas as well. I like lively discussions, people interested in all aspects of being alive, and any activity that allows me to ignore housework. I dislike arrogance and ignorance.
As an English teacher, I love the classics, but for relaxation I am devoted to suspense and mystery novels. The non-fiction I read is often about language, social issues, and education.

message 796: by Michael (new)

Michael (micky74007) Welcome VickiLee!
As long as you don't parse my sentences and correct my grammer we'll get along fine!

message 797: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (chloef13) Hi VickiLee! Welcome to the group!

message 798: by Bec (new)

Bec (foreverfnm) Heya,

This looks like a great book group! My name is Rebecca - but please call me Bec. I live in Adelaide, South Australia, although I was raised in a rural town. I moved to the city so that I can study to become a teacher - I'm studying to be a History/English teacher.

I spend most of my spare time reading, and participate in a real life book club and The Seasonal Reading Challenge here on Goodreads. Anyone else from the SRC hang about here? Between these groups and university, I get a good selection of different books. My guilty pleasure/reading for enjoyment books are generally about war, fiction or non-fiction. I also enjoy the occasional thriller, mystery or even YA books.

Look forward to meeting lots of people, and making new friends!

message 799: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (chloef13) Hey Bec, sounds like you're gonna like it here :)
