Hi Sophia. I live near Toronto! What are you studying? My daughter--in-law did her teaching degree there. Are you a hockey or baseball fan? Leafs and Jays both won today. Look forward to talking with you. Welcome to the group.

Florida, lived here my entire life
I like reptiles and stuffed bunnies, books of course. Though that does not automatically mean I like books about bunnies. I hate Watership Down, love Bunny Suicides.
This is just, too long to even try. Books - Ender's Game, Kushiel series, Jane Austen, Sherlock Holmes, Guy Gavriel Kay, Dorothy L Sayers, Lilith Saintcrow, Abigail Reynolds, Gail Carriger, Neil Gaiman, especially Stardust, Harry Potter of course. Just a very eclectic list of likes. I have a lot of free time, so I'll basically read anything. I do wish that the selection of MM books out there was of higher quality.
Movies - Colin Firth's Pride and Prejudice, Rocky Horror, Tinker Tailor, LOTR, the Producers, Dark Knight
I'm a member of postcrossing and I absolutely love it! I'm interested in photography as well and enjoy writing though not professionally, it's fun not work for me. I'm also interested in anime and manga. I'm both a Japanophile and an Anglophile, with perhaps some Francophile thrown in for seasoning.

I was having a panic attack that Goodreads had been shut down. I love it so much here and have made a few friends and the thought of loosing it was pretty scary

message 660: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, I heard that Amazon purchased goodreads so I guess they are working on it. I was not able to get in for 5 or 6 hours but some of my friends in India were able to get in the whole time. It often overloads when too many people get on but they used to put Alice in the rockingchair reading up when that happened and you would get booted out. I felt quite desperate too. I sure hope it doesn't happen again.

message 661: by [deleted user] (new)

Katherine, be sure to get your friends email addresses or friend them if they are on Facebook in case something does happen. Several of us were at least able to commiserate together.

message 670: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (eliotec) | 18 comments Hello to the group. My name is Sarah, and I hail from Michigan, a small town on the southwestern side of the state where so much is green and growing!
My likes include reading and everything associated with it, breathtaking beauty, engineering, drama, trivia, unique board games, and church.
My dislikes tend to be more like pet peeves. I dislike having an opinion without significant research behind it, animal movies, books that should end well but don't and have required a signifant amount of time to read, being disloyal, and waiting for something without a book to read.
My favorite books are the Lord of the Rings. Top authors include Tolkien, Lewis, Ferber, L'Engle, Paolini, Melville, MacDonald, Burroughs, and John Flannagan. My favorite books are adventure stories with a little bit of everything and great characters.
My favorite movies are How to Train Your Dragon, Despiccable Me, and the PRincess Bride.
My favorite songs are gospel, celtic, love, movie soundtracks, folk, instrumental, and classic.
My passions are fantasy, its roots in mythology, faerie tales, and a timeless story.

Patrick Lee (mootfowl2) | 16 comments Welcome, Sarah!
Sounds like you enjoy The Inklings:) Me too. Great literary minds.

message 672: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1 comments Hi, I'm Mike. I'm from the US, currently living in Utah after spending most of my life living in small desert communities in Southern Nevada (near Death Valley).

I like reading hard-boiled detective novels, nonfiction, and crime fiction that feature oddball or eccentric characters. Elmore Leonard and Lawrence Block's Matthew Scudder series are a couple of my favorites. I've recently begun reading some of James Crumley's books.

message 691: by Erin (new)

Erin | 5 comments Hello, my name is Erin.
I'm from Southeast Texas, love books and music, and hate (I know you said dislike, but the word seemed inadequate in this particular case) leafy greens and Brussels sprouts.
My favorites of the moment are the Dark Inside series (currently reading the sequel), Two Door Cinema Club (Tourist History is an excellent album) and the Avett Brothers.
Interests are:
Teaching (do it for a living --- 11th grade English, so I better like it)
Knitting (I'm 24, not 80)
Singing (no, I'm not famous --- the most scenic venue I've performed at is my dashboard)
Attempting to paint pretty things
Hanging out with my wonderful husband of almost 6 months and our two adorably strange dogs. They're kind of amazing.

message 692: by Patrick (new)

Patrick Lee (mootfowl2) | 16 comments Hey Erin, welcome! And congrats to the "newlyweds"! Can't say I'm a fan of knitting, or the act of, anyway, but I sing to my dashboard too:)

I particularly enjoy fantasy and general fiction. I'm looking forward to challenges with reading more, and reading books I might not normally choose!
