message 507: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Hello my name is Ashley and I'm 27 years old and from Vancouver, BC, Canada. I love tea (especially David's Tea), cats, going for walks/bike rides, movies and spending time with my family and friends. I live with my boyfriend of 5 years and our 2 cats. I love reading books from all genres but recently I have reading lots of memoirs. My favourite author would probably be Margaret Atwood. I hate the books The Life of Pi and The Alchemist. Music wise I love Nine Inch Nails, The Tragically Hip and a lot of house music.

My reading interests are really open and vast. I did a BA in English Lit & Film Music composition & as a result have read many of the 'Classics.' Still I adore reading & Usually find myself reading 4-5 book at one time.
Also, Aside from movies, and a few TV selections we tend to read aloud as well and/or work on collaborative or individual art or other projects we may be involved in!

Tricia | 1 comments hi I'm Tricia. I enjoy books of all genres. currently I'm read the Odd Thomas series by Dean Koontz. when I start a series I like to read straight through I.e. book 1through 24. I have 4 girls so sometimes its hard for me to sneak away to read. thank goodness for my nook that automatically saves my place. :)

message 522: by April (new)

April (ajoys) Welcome Tricia. Wow 4 girls!

message 523: by BattyKat (last edited Apr 04, 2013 06:23PM) (new)

BattyKat (prosserkat) Wow, Tricia, GREAT photo!! I have a pretty bad case of arachnophobia, but I love spider webs. (not walking into one!)

I prefer to read a whole series if it's available to me. I read the so-far entire Sooki Stackhouse series in a week a couple months back.
Lately, because of all my challenges, I can't do a whole series.

And, if a new book in a series finally comes out but it's been years, I have to at least read the previous book so I can remember what was going on!

Welcome and have fun!

Ali | 163 comments Hello! I'm Ali...
I'm from Plymouth, UK but recently moved to Manchester so my partner is closer to his family.
I love reading, I love the places that it takes me away to, the images and the characters. I fall in love at every turn.
I'm a massive fantasy fiction fan... David Eddings, Terry Brooks being in my top 5 authors of all time. But I will usually give anything a go.

Other than reading which is why we're all here... I love to cross stitch... and I love to live life!
I love being a Mummy... to my darling 2 year old Chloe.

Hope to get to know some of you! :D xxx

Terry ~ Huntress of Erudition Hi Ali,
I noticed you are reading " A Game of Thrones" - I finally started to reading the series also - I love it! I told my son he would like it too, since we exchange books sometimes, but he said he thought it was marketed towards women (?) Have you heard of that? Also, in case you are interested, there is an ongoing discussion on the Game of Thrones series here in Goodreads All Sorts.

message 540: by Ali (new)

Ali | 163 comments Hi Terry,
I'm re-reading... second time around now haha! Although I couldn't finish the last one... because the one after isn't out yet and I've heard it's an almighty bunch of cliffhangers that I'm not sure my heart could take... so I decided to re read them.

Not heard that they were marketed towards women... they are definitely for a fantasy fan! The TV series may well have had more women in mind with all the pretty faces :P But... the books... My partner enjoyed them just as much as I did. And they were recommended to me by other guys too.

Going to have to get my butt in on some of those discussions! I'm GOT mad! Lol!!! xxx

Hi Ali,
I asked my son again and I got it wrong, he meant the TV series was geared for women. Whatever, I know of guys that like the books and TV series too.

message 542: by Jon (new)

Jon (jon17) | 372 comments Terry,
The TV show is not geared towards women.
The TV show is geared towards people who enjoy watching good TV shows :)

Please inform your son of aforestated fact.
