Just finished "The Color Purple" and so glad that the book club chose this book so that I was forced to read it. Amazing book that challenged me morally and mentally. The book is written in the oral style of it's main character, Celie, so it was a bit difficult to adapt to at first. However, I think Walker was smart in writing in this linguistic style, as it leant authenticity to the narrative. I was shocked at the terrible occurrences that were seemingly commonplace in the novel but was continuously reminded that, unfortunately, these events still occur today in our modern society. Definitely worth reading. 4.5 stars.
