Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 548 comments No problem! You usually do most of the work, figured I should contribute this time. LOL!!

Can't wait for this one! I love nearly every YA mermaid book I've read! :D

Emily | 2 comments I read this book last year and it was so good! I got so engulfed in it that I read just sat down and read it all in one day. I hope that you enjoy it!

Yay!!! that's great to hear! Before this buddy read, I didn't even have it on my TBR so I'm excited it hear it's a good one!! :D

message 6: by Tabitha (new)

Tabitha I'm going to try this book.

Emily | 2 comments You are going to love it guaranteed!

message 8: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Trisha | 30284 comments Yay!!! We start this one tomorrow!!

How is everyone one on time? It has 33 chapters & 260 pages.
How much do we want to read on day 1 (tomorrow)?

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 548 comments 11 chapters would be good, or less.
I am slammed on homework this week!

What about everyone else?

message 10: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Trisha | 30284 comments 11 sounds good to me!

Tabitha?? :D

message 11: by Trisha, lives on coffee (last edited Feb 05, 2013 03:27PM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Trisha | 30284 comments yay!!! This book takes place in Oregon (the city says Cedar Cove but I've never heard of that!)

anyway, that's the state I live in ;)

I love when books take place in my state. I live in a really pretty area. I have everything within about a 2 hour drive - sandy beach, snowy mountains, dusty desert. we have green green forests everywhere with hiking trails & rolling hills of wine vineyards.

message 12: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Trisha | 30284 comments Hmmm, okay, made it the first 11 chapters. I don't know, there's not a lot of info yet -

oooh (view spoiler) I don't see this ending well....

what do you think so far? are you good with 11 chapters tomorrow too?

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 548 comments Oooohhh.. Where you live in Oregon spuds gorgeous!!! I'd kill to see anything green out here...

Okay, so I started this one a little late BUT I read the first 11 chapters. (School work, yuck!)

I have to agree with you.. So far, there is not much to go on with this book. I'm not sure what to think yet. Though, as for the date and ending, I remain hopeful! :)

I think 11 more sounds good.. Though, it couldn't hurt to slow down a bit. I think we are way ahead.

message 14: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Trisha | 30284 comments well, maybe we can hope for 11 but be perfectly okay with 6 chapters today? That way, we can slow down a little.

yuck, school work :( at least the classes aren't too bad, right?? at least, I hope they are fun!

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 548 comments Deal! We haven't heard from Tabitha since we started, and I don't want to leave her in the dust. If she is reading it. What do you think?

Yes, the classes are pretty fun! I am currently reading the Iliad in one and about Mesopotamia in another. (I'm a European History major LOL) it's so exciting! But, so much reading.

message 16: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Trisha | 30284 comments wow, that's some heavy reading! LOL! I guess all this YA reading is pretty fluffy light reading for you! LOL!

I haven't heard from Tabitha on any of the buddy reads yet :( I hope she comes back!

Oh,and yesterday, I put my 8 year old on my lap and told her to look at the cover and tell me what she thought the book was about.

She said she thought the girl and the boy were in love, but that they were on a different planet and that the girl was an alien. LOL It was a good guess!!

:) alright, 6 non-alien and Definitely on earth chapters today :D

I'll pop over here when I'm done. I think this next 6 chapters may pick up the pace on the book!

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 548 comments Yes, it is pretty heavy! The YA reading has served as my "break time" from school work recently LOL.

I hope Tabitha comes back too!

Your 8-year-old is adorable!! She definitely got the love part right. And, in a way I guess the "alien" thing isn't too far off from a mermaid huh?

message 18: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Trisha | 30284 comments oooh it's getting good! I think the whole plot has now been revealed!! I made it to Chapter 21 and stopped. Don't worry, tomorrow will be really crazy for me

(we're picking up almost 3000 girl scout cookies to get handed out to my Girl scouts AND I have a Girl Scout meeting! LOL! Not a lot of time for reading, unfortunately!)

so, I think I may just do a chapter or 2 tomorrow, if that's okay...

I hope you got a few more chapters in. :D

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 548 comments Oh! I can't wait to pick it up again! Now, I'm super curious. I've only gotten 3 chapters further than last time.. so we can trade! It's perfect. I'll catch up and you slow down. Ha, ha.

Wow! So many girl scout cookies!! Man, I'd kill for some thin mints LOL!! Have fun!

message 20: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Trisha | 30284 comments lol if only I could run some Thin mints over! By next week, I'm going to be hating them!

Well, I went ahead and finished this one today. I was starting to get fuzzy on the details (too many books going at once! Ugh!) so I figured I'd just get through it.

let me know you are done too, no rush, and we can chat about it :D I can't wait - since you really like mermaid books, there are some new themes in this one I'd never heard of, I'm interesting to see what you think!

message 21: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay I have considered buying this book many times but there has always been something holding me back whenever I have it in my hand. Do you think it is worth a shot for me to read??

message 22: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Trisha | 30284 comments Hmmm, I tried comparing books to see if we had similar interests - but it was mainly full of books we both had on our TBR's and not our "read" piles! LOL!

Um, do you like mermaid/siren books? I would love to say "yes go for it!" but I'm not sure I'm the one to recommend it. I did enjoy the book, but I didn't love it....

message 23: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay I am very interested in the mermaid/siren idea. The only book I have read related to that is "Siren" and I wasn't particularly impressed. Regardless of whether or not you can think of one I appreciate the effort. 8)

message 24: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Trisha | 30284 comments Janna, this one had some great surprises in the end.
I think you're going to like it!

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 548 comments Okay, so it's taken me nearly 2 months to pick this book back up... but I've FINALLY finished it!

Trisha, you were right! The end did have some great twists! It was pretty good. Not the best mermaid/siren book, but still fun! I think I set the standards a little too high for this book, it never stood a chance. Cute book still! LOL

message 26: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Trisha | 30284 comments lol! I'm so glad you got back to it.

I know, not the best, but the end kind of made up for some of it's downfalls.

wow, we had the same rating! THAT doesn't happen all the time!

which book did you compare this one too that it fell short of??

was it Wake & Lullaby or one I don't know yet?

message 27: by Janna (last edited Apr 02, 2013 11:31PM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 548 comments I agree, the end did make up for some of the downfalls. (view spoiler)

Yes, we did have the same rating! I love when we agree :D I think we have similar tests in books, just different ideas about them. LOL

By the way, I just checked out your rating for The Darkest Minds, too. I was curious how it turned out for you, since I loved it so much. I am happy you also gave it 5 stars, clearly you loved it! :D

Hmm.. I was comparing this one to a number of books.

I was hoping for awesome because I LOVED Of Poseidon, which is the book that caused me to fall in love with mermaid books in the first place! Definitely, my favorite mermaid book. :D

Wake & Lullaby were great too!

The only mermaid book I haven't particularly liked so far was Wrecked. So, I've had a pretty good track record with mermaids. Hard not to have high standards with those odds. LOL

message 28: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Trisha | 30284 comments wow, I didn't even have Of Poseidonon my TBR list! I've added it :D yay! Thx!

I did really like The Darkest Minds. I wasn't so sure when I first started it but it's one that just really sucks you in! I'm so glad I gave it a try! I actually read it because you had posted the book for a buddy read! LOL! It just took me FOREVER to get the book!!

message 29: by Janna (last edited Apr 02, 2013 11:48PM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 548 comments Oh yeah, you definitely have to read Of Poseidon! SO cute! You're welcome! :D

AHHH! Well, I'm glad you got something our of my buddy read request for The Darkest Minds! Was it hard to get from the library? It seems like a pretty popular book (so many great ratings, too)!
