SOLVED. Short story about a child who makes friend with a serial killer who kills birds with his hands [s]

The murderer is a (chinese?) immigrant, possibly a migrant worker, and a young boy befriends him. The murderer teaches the boy how to catch birds with his hands, by keeping himself still until the birds are close enough to grab. The murderer usually eats the birds raw. Throughout the tale girls are disappearing or being murdered.

I thought this was Ray Bradbury for a long time, but I think it's more modern.

FWIW, the murderer character sounds like he was based on Richard Trenton Chase, the Sacramento vampire.

Hey guys, thanks for bringing this back up through the pile!

I'm still looking for it. I believe it was in a dark-themed collection by several different authors, maybe with a crime vibe. However, I also feel there may have been fantasy elements. Not much of a help! I feel like I won't find it until someone has just read it, you know? Especially since it's a short story.

I know the murders were set in a small town, and the victims were entirely female.

It's The Bird Catcher, by Somtow. I think I read it in "Museum of Horrors" because I was an edgy middle schooler. You can find it online. Thank you, everyone.
