Does the Movie Look Different from the Book?

Kelseyc The trailer for the movie looks good don't get me wrong...but I kept seeing added material and changed content. For example when Melanie is running from the Seekers at the beginning of the book she jumps down an elevator shaft but in the trailer it shows her jumping from a window. Also I saw her jump into a swimming pool. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think that it looks good or iffy?

Joy I completely agree and for me, I saw the characters a lot different from the actors they chose for the movie. It also looks like it focuses too much on Melanie. Hope it is better than what the trailer showed. :/

.·:*¨ × Shannon♥Stelena&Bamon&Sydrian × ¨*: From what I've seen so far, there have been loads of changes. Not just the character appearances but The way they inserted Wanderer into Melanie's neck, The Healing, Melanie (has control) and Attacks an Seeker, Ian goes for an Walk with Wanderer. In Melanie's memories, she and Jared are swing dancing. The way Wanderer shows The Seeker some of Melanie's memories. How Wanderer saves Kyle, Sharon and Doc have been cut, The souls coming in PODs, The changes are somewhat bugging me. =/

Libbie Maybe I'll have luck here, but I doubt it.

1. What makes for a good book often doesn't translate well into a movie and things have to be added/moved/changed for effect. If they did, novelists wouldn't bother with books, they'd just be screenwriters instead.

2. If you wanted this book to be made into a movie that changed nothing and had every scene, it would be about 24 hours long.

3. Stephenie Meyer is one of the producers. Pretty sure she's okay with the changes being made/casting choices. And if its good enough for the creator of the world, it's good enough for me.

Joy I just don't see HOW she could be okay with the casting. She described most of them completely different.

Joy And either way, they could have still had important characters to the story without the movie being so long. Either way you want to say it, even if Stephenie was involved, many books have been poorly translated into movies. If you can't keep to the original storyline, don't make the movie or make a different movie not connected to the book.

Libbie *faceplant*

Then I guess you won't be going to see it, and that's your prerogative. I'm still looking forward to it very much and can't wait to see how it translates to the screen.

Sidenote: There's no "if" about her involvement (see post from February 12, 2012 and she's listed as a producer.

Frankly, I couldn't care less if Melanie/Wanderer was played by an Asian, Jared by an African American and Ian by a Spaniard - all they have to do is make my favorite characters come to life and from what I've seen in the trailer, Saiorse, Max and Jake are doing that in spades.

Joy Ok, the characters I am sure we could all learn to accept as anyone who portrays them. But for them to take away MAJOR characters to the story? How can anyone who loves the book fully appreciate a false representation of it? It would have been like in her Twilight books if they had cut out Jacobs family or some of Edward. I just don't know that I will appreciate the way they wrote the screen play when considering the actual book. I will probably see it eventually though so I can judge for myself.

Oh and btw is *facepalm* not *faceplant*, unless you really did fall or something. (:

Libbie I prefer faceplant, because that's how it feels when I'm banging my head against my keyboard in frustration. (And yes, I know about headdesk, sometimes I just prefer one over the other.)

But thanks for the heads up.
