What is a prediction you have about your text? Justify your idea using evidence from the text.

For a “4”: Did I….
• Write a topic sentence that provided the title, author, and genre of my text?
• Provide context of what is happening in the text, so my reader understands what I’m talking about?
• Find a direct quote from the text that proves my idea?
• Thoroughly explain the significance of my quote/how it proves my idea?
• Check for correct punctuation and spelling?

Ben Friedman | 25 comments In the book “TEN REAL LIFE STORIES” By The Townsend Library. The book is comprised of ten short stories talking about an ordeal a person underwent in their life. Each story is about five pages long. But I will make a prediction about the next short story called Shame. Based on its title I am guessing that the story will consist of a person who experisnce an event which broght them shame. The reason I think this is because shame is not typicly something you are born with.

I'm the first one done

Monica | 43 comments In the fantasy book, Dust Lands "Blood Red Roads" by Moira Young, my protagonist has found her heart's desire. She has a heartstone which her friend, Mercy gave her and it warms up whenever she stands close to Jack. He is her guide to Freedom Fields into the Black Mountains which will lead Saba to her brother. Its not only these people traveling. Along the way in her adventure, Saba met the Free Hawks when she was fighting for the Cage Master when the nasty couple found her and imprisoned her. Saba didn't feel like trusting Jack at first since the Free Hawks warned her about him, but later she began to trust him. My prediction is that Saba and Jack will soon get together and do their little thing. But now, they are too afraid to since they are on a very important mission to find Lugh. Saba knows that Jack means something to her since her heartstone felt like a burning pot whenever he is talking to her, holds her hand, or kisses her. "I'm jealous of anybody you smile at that ain't me,he says. He takes a step closer. Reaches out. Runs the back of his hand down my cheek. A hot shiver ripples through me." (334). Jack is now talking to Saba about how he felt about her and she is feeling a hot fire burning in her chest. This is why I would make the prediction of thinking that Jack and Saba would get together. This quote shows the deep and important feelings that Jack feels for Saba. Even though there is no time for them to express feelings, they still showed them to each other when there is still hope.

Matthew | 34 comments In the fiction book Unwind by Neal Shusterman, some of the main characters, like Risa and Connor, are going to be unwound. I predict that Connor and the others will keep on running from the cops so they don't get caught. Here is a quote "there's an antique shop on Fleming Street," she tells them. "Ask for Sonia. She can help you." This proves my prediction because they are looking for a place to stay at so they don't get caught and get unwound. In the quote they are to told to ask for Sonia because she can help them. I the main characters survive on the run.

Mark | 33 comments In the fantasy book, The Magician by Michael Scott, one prediction I made in my text was Niccolo Machiavelli would attack or kill Nicholas Flamel. Scatty, Nicholas, Sophie and Josh Newman went through a teleporting mirror that brought them to Paris so they could escape Dr. John Dee. Dee calls one of his allies, Niccolo Machiavelli, to find Nicholas and the others. Based on the following quote from that scene, “It would be better if you and I were never to meet again. Machiavelli attempted a laugh but it came out sounding shaky. That sounds like a threat… and believe me you are in no position to issue threats. Not a threat Flamel said and stepped back from the top steps. A promise.”(32), I predicted that Machiavelli would attack Nicholas because Nicholas threatened and frightened Machiavelli and perhaps he wouldn’t take the warning so lightly and would possibly attack in his defense.

Jack Brill | 41 comments In the non-fiction book "Fingerprints and Talking bones" by Charlotte Foltz Jones there is no story but it is about a bunch of true things on how real life crimes are solved but if there is something I can predict is I would predict that ways of solving crimes are going to involve more high tec equipment and that will make it easier for police men or FBI agents to solve crimes.

Sherlock was curious about who or what killed her. Sherlock was afraid what will the government do about this case. The Arb's was acused for murder but they didn't really kill the young women. Sherlock was also afraid about the police punishing the teenagers for trying to slove this case. Sherlock is curious about his case and his family.

Elva C. | 40 comments In the non-fiction memoir, Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom, the main character, Mitch has just found out that his old college professor has amyotrophic lateral sclerosis , Lou Gehrigs's disease. Morrie only have a little time left to live until he dies. Mitch had made a promise to Morrie that he will keep in touch after he graduated college, but he never did. However, when he was channel surfing, he heard Morrie's name on the t.v. That is where he realized that Morrie is dying, and that he will only have about 2 more years to live. I predict that after when he finds out about Morrie's disease, he will go and visit him. Mitch caught the attention when he heard, "Who is Morrie Schwartz?" This quote shows how Mitch caught the attention when he hears his old professor's name on the TV, being called. Since he didn't keep in touch with him for a long time, he wants to know what has happen to him now. After discovering, that Morrie is about to die, he might visit him, since Morrie really liked Mitch too.

Sara | 17 comments In the non fiction book "Chew On This" by Eric Schlosser and Charles Wilson. The book is talking about fast food and the truth beneath it and what it actually is made of and how it affects your health and why people get addicted. Right now where i am reading is when McDonalds was made and who it was made by and how many people go there to eat through the years and it shows people getting addicted and more addicted every year. Also about how cars made people gain more weight because they wouldn't walk and they would drive so they wouldn't be losing any weight from eating fast food. I predict that through out the years people will still gain weight and they still wont care on what it does to them and how it affects their bodies, and that people will get more addicted. Also that some people will do the opposite and figure out what its doing to their body and that it can really affect them and hurt them and once they eat it, it is connected to their body and cant come off.

Ivan (ivanski711) | 30 comments In the fiction novel, The wizards Heir by Cindia W. Chima the peace of advice I would give Seth is to just go with the flow of things, its his first day at a neew school hes 16 years old and is an orphan hes already gotten in trouble once and is refusing to swim in the freezing water. He,s made his first friend and after getting out the pool the first time his frien said "Just get in, just do it,"(4). This quote supports my edvice because it shows that his first friend in the school is telling him to just go with it and get in the water. This make me think that the school must have a strick system and hie priorities for all students.

In David Colvert's nonfiction biography book "Thomas Edison", Edison happens to be a very good hardworking man at a young age and there might be even better news ahead. Edison was born with not a lot of technology. There were telegraph and trains, but nothing much more than that. Edison grew up having trouble learning. That's why his mother taught him. As he got older, he started knowing a lot. He was still learning even though he was a little deaf. Edison went through that time and no one still knows why he was deaf. Edison loved being in the train station, it was his place where he could connect to the world. He loved telegraphs and how they interest him. Starting off, Edison was selling newspaper on the trains. He got so much business he got some workers. Edison grew up always wanting to make the things in the world easier for people like the telegraph. Still at a young age, he didn't know much about the telegraph so he always tried to receive messages from real operators to practice. One day, a child was on the tracks and Edison risked his life to save the child. That gave him the chance to learn about how the telegraph works because the child's parents promised him as a reward. Edison got older and he started having some chances of working as a telegraph operator which taught him a lot. He soon started making the telegraph better. Edison worked with some businessmen and then he got a house for his family and a lab so he can work with his assistants On page 47, the author wrote, "Edison has designed Menlo Park so he and the Boys are working inside a giant chemistry set and machine shop. Anything they might need is at hand." This showed how Edison had a whole ton of support by his finger tips. He had what he needed to invent and help him succeed for more. That also makes me predict about Edison's future before I read it. I predict that Edison will start upgrading the telegraph and making a whole ton of inventions in this lab. That's because Edison got a lot of support. Edison was all alone so he couldn't succeed at first, but now he has tons of help from his team and the materials he has for more. Plus, Edison knows a lot more than he used to from working at the train station. That's my prediction on Edison's future from what I just read.

Justin Yu | 20 comments In Richard Matheson's Sci-fi book, I am Legend, Robert Neville is on a specific job. He has to survive from all the vampire like creatures. It was away back before the pathogen spread through out the USA, he was just a normal man with a wife and a kid. He had a happy life and it was normal until this unknown thing started spreading every where. His family had to move somewhere safe and now he roams the earth looking for anybody or looking for anything to help him on his survival. If I were to predict, what was going to happen in the book, I would say that he would eventually find someone who can help. It is already the worse thing that can happen if you cannot see your family again so the best thing is to help him. I say this will happen because on page 201 "Motionless trucks-silent tanks, wisps of oily smoke still rising from shattered hulks. Great death covering the field. Another battle in another war. Victory-everyone was dead." This is showing that this battle between the creatures are almost gone. Robert Neville doesn't have to worry about it anymore.

Trinity Burgos | 31 comments In the book Rising Voices by writings of young native americans, is about young native american kids who express themselves through poems and writing about how is it like for them beong native american. I predict that these stories in the book are going to include somewhat abput where they live, and how is it like living in their home. One of the reasons why I think that the young native americans are going to write about their homes is because, sometimes not only do they speak about their lives outside of their society but, they can also talk about the difference and how comfortable it is to be in their society. James Latone states, '' Inside there's love, good laughter,And big talk. But best-its home with an open door and room for all. A castle could have no more.(45). This quote shows how he feels being on his reservation. Also, how living in his reservation makes him feel open not having to worry about other things like being judged by other people or just not feeling comfortable with his surroundings.
