I often think while I sit here in the comfort of my home outside of Boston. What if my wife never came home from work, the electricity went out and all I got on my cell phone was static. What would I do to find out what was going on. Living 10 feet away from a secondary highway that I have not seen any vehicles drive down. I think of a lot.

Good point--how does the end of the world story affect a hero who isn't combat-ready fitness? I think you've brought up a great scenario. Reminds me of the old movie Rear Window.

I've been in the "Rear Window" situation my entire life often find I have to wobble out there my self to find out what is really going on. Saw the movie "Rear Window" recently myself after seeing "The Girl" then reading Spellbound By Beauty:by Donald Spoto after seeing what Hitchcock was like in the movie.
