Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3122 comments I thought I would have a go at reading at least 50 new authors this year.

So here is the start.....

1. James Long with Ferney and The Lives She Left Behind
2. Herman Melville with Moby-Dick

My first list for 2012 was all new authors to me so you can always have a peek at my X!

Just finished The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry myself and loved it too.

3. Rachel Joyce with The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry

Sadly not available in my local library.

Good idea:)
Edited

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3122 comments Can authors please not advertise their books on my personal challenge list. If I want to look for new authors I will look in the author section of this group.

Thank you.

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 257 comments Edited, sorry. I do think it is a nice idea though.

It is a very funny take on 50 shades.

Jennifer (jenmm) | 118 comments Lynne - The Book Squirrel wrote: "10. The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh"

I have that one waiting on my Kindle, along with a bundle of others that were cheap when I was browsing post Christmas and sounded vaguely interesting - any good?

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3122 comments @Jennifer - yes it wasn't bad really. Kept me going all night shift!

Yes I have seen a few of those:) 50 shades of Grey and Zombies::)

I have to say I read the sample of 50SoG and wasn't impressed so I probably won't bother with the whole thing.

Andrew | 970 comments Lynne - The Book Squirrel wrote: "14. Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford - loved it!"

Glad you enjoyed it Lynne, It was one of my reads of 2012, very moving and an interesting piece of history I knew nothing about. Some of my physical reading group thought it too sentimental which lead to an interesting discussion!

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3122 comments @Andrew, I knew nothing about the Japanese round up either. But thinking about it the US have always been on the paranoid side! (Sorry US members!)

Glad you enjoyed it Lynne, seen as you think I had recommended it. We did the WW2 interments as well - Germans and Italians put in camps on Isle of Man.....even German Jews who had fled from Adolf. David Baddiel's novel The Secret Purposes by David Baddiel is about this and I really enjoyed it.

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3122 comments Yes knew we did it too, my grandad worked on a farm with POW's in Leiecestershire.

15. The Goddess Chronicle by Natsuo Kirino

Jane (flopsybunny) | 28 comments Have you ever read any William Horwood? I can highly recommend Skallagrigg.

I thought this was an interesting idea but it should been longer.

message 40: by Nikks (new)

Nikks | 520 comments Must be fun looking for new authors. I just discovered that My local bookstore has a bargain bin section, of popular hardbacks and some really obscure reads, all filed alphabetically. Be a great place for me to find reading material to try this challenge too.

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3122 comments @Nikks - now that will be a great place to find new authors. I don't purposely look for new authors, just see what comes along!

Helen | 3465 comments You've posted some of these twice. 26/24, 32/18, 36/15, 34/17, 28/23, 33/19. The zombie you've recently read really did my head in. I felt it was Austen but the new author just inserted ombies for Gypsies. I really begrudged reading it but a friend had given it to me with such high recommendations I felt obliged.

message 45: by Weenie (new)

Weenie Nice challenge here - I'm thinking of going for my first 50 book target next year. If I can do that, then the following year, I'll try a 50 different authors. Not sure about 50 new authors though! I'd say good luck but it sounds like you're making great progress!

Oh yes so I did! It's been a long week! And it is only Weds! Lol! Will sort it out!

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3122 comments Thanks Weenie, although as Helen kindly pointed out I repeated some! Still it makes me read books I would not normally read.

@Helen - all sorted out now and only one extra on there. I didn't enjoy Zombies either, it was my recommendation for May from the other group.

message 48: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3465 comments I tried Mr. Darcy, Vampyre, that was poor too!

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3122 comments Helen wrote: "I tried Mr. Darcy, Vampyre, that was poor too!"

Yes, I agree, I read that one too!
