YAAASSSS! People who have not read this series are missing out on a whole lot of happiness. I pity them. I just reread that series for the third time a couple days ago! Another good series is Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard.

1) The Warrior Chronicles - K. F Breene - Shanti is a pretty kick ass heroine, has romance, but that's definitely not the focus of the story, and it has lots of great supporting characters, great fight scenes, and a great storyline
2) Tairen Soul Series - C.L Wilson - First off, ignore the cheesy cover, I skipped over reading this one many times because the cover turned me off, but the story is pretty epic. It can get a bit over "romancy" at times, but if you are not opposed to the romance, it is a great series and a fun story with lots of twists and turns
I just finished the demon king series based on many people's recommendations here, and while I really enjoyed it, I found the first 2 books were really slow at times and the story pacing felt a bit off, book 3 was better, but missing a big climax, but it was all worth it for the last book... wow, loved it!

Yes! Falling Kingdoms is one of my favourite series ever.

Six of Crows
The Orphan Queen
Truthwitch
Red Queen
Cinder
Snow Like Ashes
Nevernight
The Heist Society/All Fall Down (kind of...)
Wolf by Wolf- I'm not sure why, but it reminded me of Throne of Glass

Think Acomaf set in an urban fantasy world.

I really didn't like Graceling either. And I did want to like it soooo much too!

Books/series I love / really enjoyed that I feel really do a great job the way Maas does are: A Promise of Fire series by Amanda Bouchet, Storm Born series by Richelle Mead (more sci-fi than fantasy), Mage Slave series by R.K. Thorne, Nemesis by Anna Banks, Witchlands series by Susan Dennard, The Winner's Curse series by Marie Rutkoski, Wraith Kings series by Grace Draven.
Thank you all very much for other books mentioned in this discussion post (I literally have 30 tabs open on each recommendation to see what I might read next!). I will be coming back here for more! I hope someone will enjoy one of the above mentioned books!

It main difference is just the way the main character acts. I liked it because the story is about having to keep some secrets like ToG.

NO. If they say they're not affected by ACOTAR then they are liars.

I have been trying to get to the Air Awakens series for a while now - I just keep getting caught up in grad school, life, Kdramas, and other amazing books!!!

That's on my list. I hear it's good.

You're enthusiasm calls for me to add this to my list.

But I also LOVED Red Queen, the Snow Like Ashes, Young Elites, An Ember in the Ashes (I'm reading it right now and it's amazing!!).

I had a lot of trouble getting into this series because the writing was so quirky. Also, I really prefer a historical setting to a contemporary setting so that kind of leaves Taylor's Daughter of Smoke and Bone series out.

P.S. Really?! I could not stand Falling Kingdoms. Oh well ;)"
UM HELL YES! I've read the Study series by Maria V Snyder and man it is awesome. I read it before TOG series but frfr I have to say I like TOG world much better but both are equally good:) I'm very indecisive haha
However, IMO the study series ended very badly. I feel sad to say this but it's true:( but the characters are and will always be amazing af haha. I think you should give Poison study a try;)
ALSO: My friend told me about reading Falling Kingdoms? whats so bad about it?

By the way if you know of someone who love the series and would like to start fangirling with me... let me know

I agree about Six of Crows being a cool series, but I really preferred Shadow and Bone from The Grisha trilogy by the same author. A cool story with sort of similar elements as Maas has.
Also Under Different Stars was a really cool series, it’s not as fantasy and epic, but it’s sci fi/ romance and really exciting.
Eon: Dragoneye Reborn has the fantasy genre (but without the romance), it’s based on Mulan, so that’s pretty cool.
The Queen of All that Dies is also a really cool series, with a big check ✔️in the hot and steamy department. Also filled with action.
An Ember in the Ashes is absolutely awesome, I would really recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy/adventure/YA.
The Kiss of Deception is a romance/adventure with a really nice plot and cool characters. Assassins and princes is always a plus, no?
I agree with many others about Red Queen
series and Cinder that is a part of The Lunar Chronicles (awesome series that weaves (heh little ACOTAR reference there) many fairytales into a modern twist).
I have to say that none of these can compare to the works of my Goddess Maas, not in plot, character development nor writing, but they are all very entertaining!
sorry for long post, again... but I hope it may be of help to someone out there :)

I'd also recommend Three Dark Crowns . Lots of conspiracy and intrigue in an interesting setting. The start is a bit slower than other books we might be used to, though, so I'd only recommend it if you can deal with that.
Same goes for Outlander . If you love Rhys, you'll also fall in love with Jaime. Sarah J Maas is a confirmed Jaime fan ;)
If all else fails, just be like me and make a Kingdom of Ash placeholder out of a shoebox to put on your shelf.

P.S. Really?! I could not stand Falling Kingdoms. Oh well ;)"
Not that i cn't stand it, but I'm with You. I read all of the series... although at the end it was a struggle.
