For the month of February, our challenge is to read either an Aussie Indigenous Author or about Indigenous culture. I know I have read few indigenous authors, so thought it would be a great challenge as something different for a lot of people!

I love this challenge. There is an entire Indigenous section at my local library that I spend a fair bit of time in. I like to read about my culture being an Indigenous Australia. Now just to decide what book/s to read.

Just started reading Les Mis - and that is going to take me a while. I don't get as much reading time as I would like, but I need to discipine myself to stick with one book before taking on another. At the moment, Les Mis is it :) By the way, I think We of the Never Never is on TV today, which touches on Indigenous culture. It's the one I would choose to read if I get to it.

Yes Les Misérables will certainly take a long time!!! You're brave;) We of the Never Never is a book I read many, many years ago...I still have my copy here:)

The title Paris Dreaming made me think "What on earth is that!" So I looked it up and found it is kind of chick lit with an indigenous author. Brilliant! I am going to read Manhattan Dreaming just to be different. Thank you Zoey for the inspiration :)

I'll be interested to see what you both think. I read Anita Heiss's Not Meeting Mr Right and was incredibly disappointed. As part of the chick-lit genre, it was okayish and, like you, I love the fact that it's by and about an Indigenous woman. Unfortunately, Heiss - who is an academic, and whose main character was a history teacher - got the dates for Indigenous suffrage and the 1967 referendum mixed up. It annoyed me so much I had to write a correction in the margin of the library book I had borrowed.

Just purchased Benang: From the Heart by Kim Scott. He is a descendant from an aboriginal tribe local to where I live. Won Miles Franklin award for the book, sounds like a goodie!

Just starting mine tonight. Manhattan Dreaming Hoping it will be light and entertaining. I just finished a tear jerker and I am feeling a bit wrung out!

Finished Manhattan Dreaming. I read it fast because I did not like it much. The dialogue was really false and became very irritating after a while. The author tried to impart far too much information about everything which then impacted on the story itself. Glad I read it because I now know what not to read in future.

That's very true:) I'm enjoying the huge variation that the challenges allow for...I used to stick to the same genre, but now I'm all over the place;)

I'm knee deep in Native Tribes of Central Australia and finding it interesting research, though for light reading I am proofing but I love this stuff so alls good.

I opted out of this month's challenge as I have a bit going on - but there are some wonderful suggestions here and I have been making lists furiously :)

I actually have an Anita Heiss book lined up for my chick lit Aussie read in a couple of months - but have a few places still as TBA so the list I have from this month should help fill in the blank spots :)
