Carla Krueger (carlahkrueger) | 7 comments Slaughterhouse is a dark, brooding, psychological thriller/horror set in Fort Worth, Texas. It's a fast-paced, intricate story with some very interesting characters and, as many readers have commented, a tense, dramatic, thought-provoking ending.

It's not a gory story and it's not a slasher horror by any means. It's full of interwoven themes and delicate touches, but it does pack a punch.

Best described as a short novel, the book is about a third the length of a standard book – enough to capture the imagination, present a gripping storyline and entertain you without losing its fiery theme. This short, sharp shock of fiction takes a few hours to read – about as long as it takes to watch your favourite film.

Other readers have compared it to Gillian Flynn's 'Gone Girl' and Stephen King's 'Misery', but if you're a film buff, it's probably more akin to 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' – just not as bloody.
