Cori Renn | 18 comments I am looking to start a blog on book reviews and I know there are a lot of book lovers on this site who have their own book reviewing blogs. I just wanted to know what content would be good to put in a review and what doesn't work. If anyone can give me suggestions, I would be extremely appreciative.

Thank you!
Cori

You mean for the kinds of books I would review? Reviewing teenage love and high school books?

Daisy Sloan | 54 comments the most important thing is to write about what you love. Write reviews on whatever types of books interest you most.

Be honest. Even if you have an author/publisher send you a book to review, be honest. Your followers expect you to be honest.

Don't attack the author. If something doesn't work for you in the book, be honest, but be nice.

I hope this is what you were looking for.

What she said. :P Be honest and read & review books from genres you love. If an author requests a review, don't be afraid to decline it if it's not your kind of book. And if it is, but you don't like it as much as you thought you would, be honest. =)

Camilla (cyqua) I agree with everything that Lee Anne and Bieke wrote about being nice/fair, but honest.

As for what specifically a book reviewing blog should contain, I can only say that all my favourite blogs (book and otherwise) are ones where I really feel like the blogger themselves come through in their writing..
Meaning that it isn't WHAT you write, but HOW you write it... Finding a "voice" that's yours and then just hope that that voice appeals to potential readers..

Just my two cents :)

Exactly what she said. And remember two important things:
- reading should be fun, so don't let bad books scare you off reading.
- you write reviews for readers, not authors. Remember your audience and always be honest.
